Have any of you ever heard of this road before?

    Dragon's Tail

Someone posted about it at BCC.com, and I thought I'd bring it up here.

I just found out about it myself a few weeks ago, and I live in western NC!

A trucker friend of mine passed through there recently coming from Tennessee to NC. He had no idea what he was in for, until it was too late. He told me that he was so scared that he was shaking going around curves. He had to take both lanes in order to navigate the sharp corners & switchbacks.

Fortunately, his trailer was empty, so that helped a little he said.

Check these pictures out of unlucky trucks & a few motorists too.

This road is very popular with bikers, and sports cars.

Deal's Gap/Tail of The Dragon is a mecca for motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts. Wife and I are planning several days there in mid-July with my Miata. I'll be sure to followup.

It is adjacent to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park... not a bad spot for a vacation!

I was in Gatlinburg last year during the 4th. The town has a midnight parade every year to celebrate Independence day.

Be sure to check out Cades Cove too........Tried to go their myself, but the road was closed due to storm debris. The road to the cove follows a beautiful mountain stream!.......Stunning scenery all around.

The RX-7 Club had a meet there back in April... 50 something rotaries, all hauling *** down the road.

I really wish my 85 RX-7 was running... it would have been PERFECT for the T.O.T.D. Fully built to SCCA rules. Suspension, cage, brakes, wheels, tires. It was DONE. but the motor went poopy 2 weeks before the Dragon.

Very similar to most mountain roads here in Costa Rica....except for the lack of potholes....

Well, life happens... She decided (again) that a vacation includes a beach, so we enjoyed a week in Naple, FL (yes, it was hot, but I'm told that's what vacations are about...)

Now I'm contemplating a quick (solo) visit in early September, just to ride the
                    Dragon.

Oh, BTW, "Champ" will have a new Crate Motor by then... that sorta explains her reluctance to go along.

When this trip happens, I'll have pics and more...

Does anybody know how to post a link for Google earth. If so, I can post a link for Deals Gap. Also, I found a hotel when looking for info Deals Gap which has small garage with every room for your motorcycle. Now if they had something like for car enthusiasts.
