Anyone else get weird looks while detailing?
I live right outside of Memphis in North Mississippi on the corner on an intersection in my neighborhood. I notice people kind of look at me odd when they see me cleaning/detailing my car everyday—I even have teenagers yell gibberish at me (this is not related to detailing so much as their age/behavioral norms).
One theory is that since I live in Mississippi, that people are much more used to having a dirty car, even going into mid-town Memphis I notice a significantly higher level of car-detailing and nicer vehicles in general. Another theory is that detailing is almost antiquated in popular culture. From what I have researched, in the 50s, 60s, and 70s detailing was very common, and part of traditional Americana; I suppose now with so many automatic car washes and advancing of clear coat quality that maybe detailing as we know it is much more of a niche hobby?
