  • compound and Wax

Can you guys share the more popular compounds and waxes you are using for best results please? I am looking for a good wax that lasts in the AZ desert and an awesome compound that removes desert striping.

Ultimate Compound for the compound, Ultimate Polish, or M205 for final polish, and Ultimate Paste Wax for best durability. Note Ultimate Paste (and Liquid for that matter) wax are really sealants, not waxes. They are quite durable, and you can use a booster with Ultimate Quik Wax (spray wax) after you wash to extend your wax protection. I do weekly washings, and alternate using UQW and Ultimate Quik Detailer after every wash. Your car will look like it was just waxed week after week.

Which compound you use is going to depend on the condition of the paint, what your application process is (hand, DA or rotary) and how the paint responds to that input. Easily the three most popular compounds used around here are M105 Ultra Cut Compound (our most aggressive compound), Ultimate Compound (a consumer product derived from M105) and D300 DA Microfiber Correction Compound. We really think people reach for M105 more often than they need to, and overlook UC simply because it's a consumer product. But UC uses the same SMAT abrasives as M105, gives a much longer buffing cycle on a DA, and won't create anywhere near the dust that M105 can, especially in a hot environment like Phoenix. No, it won't cut as fast, but if you're looking to remove fairly typical swirls, in most cases you just don't need that much cut to get the job done.

To really maximize the finish, however, you'll want to follow the compounding step with a good finishing polish. Something like M205 Ultra Finishing Polish or Ultimate Polish can do wonders for really boosting the gloss and depth prior to waxing.

You'll most likely want to stick with a solid synthetic like Ultimate Wax or NXT Tech Wax 2.0 for this. And finally, we have to ask, what do you mean by "desert striping"?

Desert Striping is when the trucks go out to the desert and drive really fast through the brush out in the middle of nowhere. Also, I will be using my DA 95% of the time. I will look into buying these products to be more effective for my fall detailing jobs. Sorry this took so long Mike, I just discovered how to find my old posts. Still looking for the button to show me where to do a permanent signature and tag line.
              Thank you for your information.
