  • Line X Scratched My Truck!

I am sooo not happy with LineX right now! I took my truck in for a bedliner and got some deep scratches too. The marks on the pillar feel pretty deep but hopefully not through the clear coat. The ones on the bumper while smaller feel deeper.

So my question to you all is... What should I expect them to do about it? No question that I don't want to take my truck back to them to let them try to fix it or even have it in their shop again for someone else to touch. I'm not sure I want a body shop to touch it. It's "almost" perfect and only has 4,000 miles on it.

Thanks for letting me vent too! lol

I don't understand how you're gonna remove the scratches in the pillar... They look like they're down to the primer or something.

That ***** that line x did that to your truck. They basically beat the heck out of it. I don't know what I would do. I'll definitely never get a spray on bed liner. A rubber mat for the bed is good enough!

Definitely take it back in and talk to the shop manager about it. It is troubling that darker material can be seen in the scratches as that's not a good sign at all. But without actual hands on evaluation it's a bit difficult to say for sure - we've seen pictures that looked much worse than things really were, but we've also seen pictures that did not reveal everything. Either way, before you even think about doing anything on your own to try and fix this, let the shop manager see it and discuss repair options with him. Whether that means him paying for a detailer or a body shop is something the two of you will need to decide. But if they caused the damage, it's up to them to stand up and do the right thing.

Thanks for the words of concern and advice!

I emailed them just before I posted this and they seemed concerned. They want me to stop by so they can see it in person. I'll do that some time next week. The darker color is what scared me too. The don't feel too deep but then again maybe the paint isn't all that thick there too. I'll keep everyone updated.

Funny but I wanted to learn wetsanding just not on my truck! Haha

Re: Line X Scratched My Truck!

I have sold Meguiar's, rubber mats, and spray on bedliners for years. If there is a scratch to be removed, there is a Meguiar's product that will get it out. As for bed mats vs spray in bedliners, they both serve a purpose otherwise they wouldn't both sell well.

As for the scratches, before applying Line-X, the paint must get scuffed and wiped down. In order to scuff and not breach the clearcoat, the dealer should be using a nylon cup brush instead of a wire brush with fine grit sand paper or scuff pads on the edges. This should always be done after the truck has had line tape, masking paper, and plastic attached. Where your scratches are are not consistent with the prep or application of the Line-X. What they are consistent with, is a critical step after the liner has cured. After removing the line tape and before removing the masking and plastic, the installer should have reinstalled the bed bolts and tie downs. It appears the masking/ plastic was removed and a rubber hose attached to an air ratchet or impact gun caused the damage to the clear coat. When you go back to the dealer, ask them how the truck is pulled into the spray area. You'll find out that the air hose comes from forward of the driver's side.
Nothing wrong with Line-X as a product, it looks more like installer process error. Hopefully Meguiar's products will get it out.

Thanks so much for the information Gambro! What you said makes perfect sense too as I have accessory rails in my bed that where removed and reinstalled.

As far as the LineX product... I love it! I had the premium sprayed in and it looks great.

I have an appointment tomorrow with the installer. Hope it goes well.
