I don't mind it. It looks like a fun car to own and detail. Ultimate wax or gold class wax+ would sure make it look pretty. The design looks good too. With the price of fuel these days, this sort of compact sports car might prove to be popular and a sensible choice for many people who live in a congested urban environment. It's no Boss 302 Laguna Seca, it's not meant to be. Like an MX-5, the emphasis is on balance and good handling and I can respect that.

Anyway, what do you guys think of it?

Most of the Toyota's out the past few years have been boring, but this one that i would look forward to seeing/checking out in person. If i'm not mistaken, this will be under the brand Scion here in the states.

The concept looks so much better (as with any car I guess). With those production car pics, I'm impartial to it. I think it would be a great and fun car to drive with lots of aftermarket support.

Car & Driver Magazine has a write up on this in the current issue, but their actual drive of the car dates back a couple of months. The car they drove was the Subaru badged variant of the car and they had the head engineer from Subaru with them, although the car was heavily camouflaged at the time. Anyway, the article went on to quote Subaru saying that not only are all three versions (Subaru, Toyota, Scion) using the same Subaru sourced 2.0L boxer 4, but that Subaru did all the engineering work all the up to the hard points on the chassis, and Toyota was then left to skin the car based on those chassis parameters. So, at least according to that article, this car is actually much, much more Subaru than it is Toyota. Apparently the plan is to market it as both a Subaru and Scion here in the states, but as a Subaru and Toyota in markets where Scion doesn't exist. Design differences between the three iterations aren't all that great, either, with just some fairly subtle fascia changes front and rear.

The article did talk about the excellent handling balance of the car and how even the auto trans did an excellent job while carving up the canyon roads above Malibu, CA and how the handling target was the Porsche Boxster. Shootin' pretty high there.

Oh, and even though it's mostly a Subaru design, everything sits so low in this car that no currently existing Subaru all wheel drive components/tech will work in it, so don't expect to see any of that in the near future. At least it's RWD!

+1 I like the Subaru design better too. I had a feeling Subaru was behind most of the work I'm really excited to see what the new WRX brings to the table.
