  • Thoughts on 2012 Products

As a several decade long lover of Meg's products, I looked forward to this introduction, as I do every year. Up until today, each year I have found some products that had me anxiously awaiting their availability. But this year is different. I really didn't see any product that I am dying to get my hands on and only one or two that I'd like to try.

Let me explain my sour grapes opinion.

    - Rinse Free Express Wash is an interesting product but I already find Last Touch performs very well for this so unless it knocks my socks off this might not do it for me. I'll likely try it though

    - Hot Rims All Wheel and Tire cleaner is also interesting but I only chemically clean my wheels and tires once a year. The rest of the year I use car wash soap and a brush so as not to remove my wheel sealant as chemical cleaners certainly do. I take my wheels off the car each spring and clean, polish and seal, so this would be a step backward for me.

    - Hot Rims Brake Dust Barrier also sounds good but I wash my wheels and tires weekly and I apply QWD to the wheels after each wash so I have little need for barrier product as QWD already does that for me. I never have brake dust issues.

    - Synthetic Xpress liquid wax is a neat product but I already use the Synthetic Xpress Spray Wax and for my sealant, I use ULW or M21 and don't see a need a Detailer Line gallon of this product. Wax/sealants goes a long way and a gallon of any wax would last me a lifetime. I use about a half an ounce of product to wax or seal a car and already have enough waxes and sealants to last me a lifetime.

    - Gold Class Premium Quik Detailer is fine but I already use and love Synthetic Spray Detailer, M135.

    - Gold Class Carnauba Plus Quik Wax also sounds fine but I have no need for it in my workflow. I already have too large a supply of wax and sealants.

    - Quik Wax, I have no interest in this product as I use Synthetic Xpress Spray Wax D156.

    - Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner also sounds interesting but I already use a great glass cleaner in Megs Detailer Line concentrate. I buff with D156 after cleaning which leaves the same slick polymer action so while I'm not overly excited about this product, I will likely try it sooner rather than later.

    - Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere sounds like it would work well for me during the winter months and is the only product from this 2012 announcement that strikes me as something really I want to try now if not sooner.

Sadly, for me, none of these new products come close to impacting me as much as the DA MicroFiber kit has. I was hoping for some really breakthrough products from Megs like a Paint Coating system or a new DA buffer.

As often is the case with Megs products, my opinion of them usually changes with their use, so I still hold out hope that my initial assessment is off the mark. In the mean time, my credit card is going back onto my wallet.

    Re: Thoughts on 2012 Products

Looks like Meguiar's finally took notice of excellent products coming from Optimum Car Care.... this year(ONR and Opti-Clean). To be fair... Looks like OCC liked some of Meguiar's products this year (DAMF pads). =)

ONR, OCW, OPP, Opti-seal, and opti-coat will be products that I stock for many years to come. Optimum Car Care user since 2008!

Don't get me wrong, I do love a lot of Meguiar's products. They just didn't have all the products that I wanted/needed over the last few years.

All I know is that I inch closer to becoming a Meguiars-only detailer.

With so much of their stuff now able to be used in the sun, I can now run my mobile detailing business easier.

It appears that most of the new products if not all are geared for end consumer use. Can't blame them because that's where most of the earnings come from. I for one will try few products.

I will for sure buy the Tire & Trim Gel, the improved M91, and the Rinseless Wash & Leather Cleaner.

I'm actually really excited for the Tire and Trim Gel and living in an area where washing cars in the winter is such a pain, the Rinseless wash is very intriguing. I also will try the wheel and tire cleaner and the wheel guard. I think all of those will help me with working on other people's cars. I can understand the OP issues, but from my point of view I think the ones mentioned above will be great for my business.

                Re: Thoughts on 2012 Products

Considering how much of a massive advancement Meguiar's has made in the last 2-3 with a slew of compounds and polishes, I am actually pleased with a slew of other products aimed at other jobs. We already have M105/M205, the D300 and D301 combos, not to mention Ultimate Compound and Polish. We recently got a slew of new waxes, and still got a few upgrades as well this year.

The Rinse-less wash is huge for me...really huge. I have been waiting patiently for that for a while as I can't stand the smell of ONR.

Also, the new drill-based forced rotation DA seems fantastic. I think it will allow for amazing pin-point correction in tight spots that no other buffer can offer...and I am guessing at a fraction of the price, too (MSRP not yet announced).

The way I see it, you can only reinvent the wheel so many times. I think 4 years in a row would have been asking a bit much. I still blame Meguiar's though, they set the bar too high with the last few years

Does anyone know when we will see the new products in the store, and other countries like Canada

                    Re: Thoughts on 2012 Products

My question is: after all those great new products, which are the ones that are gonna disappear from the current catalog?

I see that neither NXT nor Mirror Glaze product lines got any novelty this year, which leads me to think that they're less important for the corporation.
