  • Car dealership troubles/advice

So I own a 2008 Suzuki. I wanted to have my auto trans flushed cause I want to keep the car for a very long time. When it comes to my car, family, and money...I dont mess around.

I THOUGHT the best place to take it was a Suzuki Dealership. They supposedly use OEM fluid and are cetrified techs.

I called and was givien a price of around $180 for a complete flush (NOT A DRAIN/FILL).

THe car has 35,000 miles on it and I wanted to go ahead and get it done. I check the fluid before the flush and it was dirty/brown color. Supposed to be Ruby Red.

After the flush I got home and check the fluid, like I said, im anal about my car. Turns out, the fluid is still brown/dirty and smells burnt.
I immediatly called them and told them, they told me that is normal and fine and that is prob dirty from driving home. WTF!!!

After much research today and calling shops, Im 100% that a COMPLETE system flush should leave brand new RDUDY RED fluid. Its not!!!

I think they stolle my money!!!

Im going up there in the morning. Im 18 so I hope they dont play games.
Anyone have any advice on how to handel this?!?!?!

You are correct. Your trans fluid should be red after a fush. The reason for the 180 bucks is because they (are suppose to) use alot of fresh trans fluid to "flush" out the trans. Talk to the service manager. Be polite and ask him to explain exacly what they did. Then say you would like it done again because it was not done properly. Does'nt work? Find out if there is a organization who oversees the condut od car dealers in your area. Go to them if all else fails.
Good luck and don't let them get away with it!

Yea, I hope they take care of it. Ill be there at 730 in the morning. I personally think $180 is a fair chunk of change and that the service should be done correctly. We will find out early tomorrow morning....

First off find out what is recommended by Suzuki, sometimes what some people refer to as a "flush" means a "drain & refill".
On my Acura, Honda does NOT recommend a "flush", as in using a machine to change the fluid all at one time, as this can disrupt the internals of the transmission.
Do some research and find out what the offical recommendation of Suzuki is and then go in and speak to them from a postion of knowledge.

I sure hope Suzuki isn't charging $180 for a drain and refill. A drain and refill only replaces about 40% of the fluid. A flush replaces all of it. I wouldn't pay more than about $35 for a drain and refill personally. Of course, I do all my own vehicle service.

To the OP, make sure they changed your tranny filter.

It was a flush. Suzuki reccommends a flush. Acura/Honda refer to a flush as doing a drain/fill about 3-4 times.

Suzuki reccommends a flush using the machine, not a drain/fill
And it is IMPOSSIBLE for a normal person to do a "flush" at home. Its requires a machine. Thats why its so expensive.
And my car has no "changeable" filter. Its part of the tranny and is not accessable.

            Thanks fo the tips/advice everyone!!!!
            I hope they man up!!!

Sounds like it overheated and you have some burned out clutches. New tranny time.

Maybe for you. I've done a tranny flush at home on my Range Rover. Did it in my garage. Just gotta know what you're doing.

The stealership will probably push the blame on you. Either that or they'll just add more fluid and try to call it good. Unfortunately, heat is the #1 killer of automatic transmissions. So driving it with little to no fluid in there, even for a short distance, very well could have done your tranny in. I'd press the issue big time with the service manager. If they don't want to deal with you, I'd go above that store to corporate.

You'll start having issues with it. Tranny slipping, gears won't engage properly, overheating due to the slippage, etc.

It might not show up right away. They may have just significantly decreased its life. That's why I wouldn't let them get away with just completing the flush and sending you on your way. You might not have any problems now, but you could in 10, 20, 30,000 miles. They need to make this right. And document, document, document. Document everyone you talk to, when it was, what they stated, keep any and all paperwork. Get things in writing, not just spoken. If it's not on paper, it didn't happen.

Deal ONLY with the service manager, not one of their lackeys. Get them to admit that THEY it was their screw up, and you want to know what they're going to do to make it right, including early trans failure down the road. Keep us posted. Fools!

To add...make sure it is THE service manager, NOT the service writter.
