  • I was in another car wreck!!

So yesterday i was driving home from work...this girl was doing about 55 mph as she crested a hill. The car in front of me stopped...I slammed on my breaks and swirved into the other lane...the girl behind me hit me...at 50mph...i went to the hospital via ambulance...no neck damage..now i have medical bills, a NON DRIVABLE car, a 18th birthday on firday, and i also leave for college on friday...4 hours away!!! MY CAR HAS BEEN REAR ENDED TWICE IN 8 MONTHS!! WTF...Her isn is paying all of it. Last time i was rear ended it cost about $7 grand because my floor buckeled. Do u think its totaled. Can someone give me a GUESS on an estimate. Its a base model 2008 Suzuki SX4 (auto) 2wd....any ideas? (21,000 miles on it). Im soo stressed.

    No way - It's repairable
    Bumper Assembly
    Rear Body Panel
    Floor
    Lt Frame Rail (maybe)
    Exhaust

Not a complicated repair. $5000 maybe. You can't go after Diminished Value either.

The car that hit you suffered much more damage.

Explain "wasn't this bad" in more detail...

You can only recover DV damages on the 1st go around. Your car's value can't be affected twice.

          o. that makes sense. I was only hit last time at about 30 mph. Bumper was "intact" and the car was drivable....this time as you can tell, its much different...and will my value be REALLY low because of the first accident?

Re: I was in another car wreck!!

DV is a strange thing that is widly debated. There is no real world answer or calculation to the amount (if any) that can be recovered. The largest factor in calculating DV is how well the car was returned to pre-loss condition. A car repaired a Maaco may not be of the same calibre as a high end shop.

I suggest taking your car to the most reputable shop local and have them negotiate your best interest with the other insurance company. They need to make you "whole" and as long as their requests are realistic, fair & reasonable things should go well.

Don't forget, you could always initiate a DV claim on the prior claim incident.

yea...its just sooo stressful. I mean i leave the state in 2 days and AM NOT returning anytime soon, except to pick up a check for a totaled car, or a fixed car...its just bad timing//all i can do is hope for the best outcome...any other tips?

Re: I was in another car wreck!!

                  3 options:

1- Go to a high end reputable shop within your current location.

2- Go to Direct Repair Vendor of the insurance company that's paying the claim. The good thing about this is that both the insurance company and the body shop will offer a lifetime gaurantee on the repair. If something fails or happens down the road (even in another state) you can return to another local vendor within the network to get warranty coverage. With the 1st option if something happens you'd have to return back to that exact shop. DRP shops tend to not be the best option from a quality standpoint, but you'll not have any out of pocket expenses.

3- Get the vehicle towed to a shop of your choice closer to where you'll be staying. This way you can monitor the work flow and if something needs to be corrected at the time of delivery/completition you don't have to drive 4 hours multiple times. If you explain your situation to the insurance company they might even pay for the tow charges.

What insurance companies are involved - your's and the other person?

Re: I was in another car wreck!!

Sorry to hear about the wreck.....perfect timing huh? Damage doesn't look to be too bad to be totalled by looking at the pics. Also your auto insurance (or the other drivers insurance) should pick up the EMS and ER bill.

Now with that said, I have a few burning questions to ask.....I'm in no way busting your chops but I just have to ask!!

By looking at those pics and reading that you slammed on your brakes because the car in front of you stopped and you swerved into the other lane, please tell me you didn't swerve into the oncoming lane!?! A non drivable car would have been the least of your worries if there was another car in that lane! Always go to the right and into the shoulder or grass in your case! It's way better then striking an oncoming car head on and dealing with those consequences! How fast were you going and how much distance were between you and the person in front of you?

It doesn't look as if she hit you at 50 mph, if I had to guess it looks to be around 20-25 mph tops. Hitting you at 50 would have surly buckled in your rear end, and blown out your rear windows.

Lastly.....relax! Stuff happens and you just have to hold your head up and drive on (sorry...no pun intended). Don't let it get you down, it happens to everyone! At least you are not spending your 18th b-day 7,000 miles away in Iraq or Afghanistan not knowing if it will be your last!

I don't think I can give you any better advice then what has already been said by other members here except that the insurance should cover your medical bills.

If it means anything.....I hope you have a happy 18th birthday! Make the most of it and have a blast!!

Re: I was in another car wreck!!

Thanks for the b-day wishes. And the other ins is taking care of everything i hope. I just hope that if it gets totaled that i can get a 2011 or something. Not a piece of ****...and i didn't swerve into the grass cause there was a truck parked on the road. That's why the car in front of me stopped. So she didn't hit the man walking in the road back to his truck....it just sux not knowing...,and it looks like the frame may be bent,
