Yeah, if you want to die when a pedestrian walks into the side of it!!
"Dang!! Did you get hit by a Mack truck?" "No. A stupid pedestrian ran into the side of me!!"

Quite a sight.
I'd want to black out the windows so nobody could see me. Likely the officer pulling me over would understand and let me go

These actually hold up better than you might expect in crash testing.
HowStuffWorks explains hundreds of subjects, from car engines to lock-picking to ESP, using clear language and tons of illustrations.
One of the contributors to Sports Car Market Magazine recently mentioned that he and his wife were broadsided in their Smart fortwo by a Buick doing 40mph. The Smart was totaled but they both walked away from the accident.
Keep in mind, too, that this is really a "city car" and not truly designed for freeway cruising.
There are, of course, tradeoffs with anything. You certainly wouldn't want to be broadsided by a semi in one, but then again would you really want to be broadsided by a semi while driving any passenger vehicle?Michael Stoops

With the terrible fuel mileage they get (I would expect 100mpg out of something that weighs 250lbs fully loaded), I don't understand why anyone would buy one of those death buckets. A VW Jetta TDI gets better fuel mileage and would be a far safer vehicle to be in.
I've worked 1000's of crashes over the years, and I know what happens when a large vehicle, SUV, or truck hits a small vehicle - not good. I wouldn't dare put a loved one in a Smart Car, even if it was free. JMO.

My wife's first question was how did he get in there? quickly followed by How will he get out without the jaws of life? Literally wearing your car can not be safe.
Tell that to the Mario Andretti wanna be I followed on I-80 in Omaha this afternoon that he shouldn't be cruising the interstate in one. He was weaving in and out of traffic like it was a CHP high speed chase or something. I've hit potholes around here that could swallow a Smart whole.
