  • Driving cross country

Leave sunday to go to Northern Virginia to move my girlfriend back to her parents for a year to save up for law school.

Any idea of routes? Anything I must see? I've got a few weeks off so we are gonna take the drive nice and see what we want. FIgure we'll spend 10 days or so.

    Looking for tips

    Hi Scott,

Sounds like fun! My only tip is the one you've undoubtedly already heard and that's to drive careful!

IMHO, this time of year, I would take I40 the entire way. Pick it up in Barstow from the I15 and just head east. The only thing that comes to mind on the way is Vegas (actually Laughlin on I40) and the Grand Canyon. Bring chains as the mountain passes can get snow, specially around flagstaff. It ends in N. Carolina I think so you'll have to head a little north from there.

The alternatives are to pick up I80 from S.F. to N.Y.C. and then shoot down the coast to VA but it can be cold this time of year, specially going through the mountains through Reno. Then there's historic Route 66 but that takes you to Chicago and certain cold.

Keep is posted on your trip. Bring plenty of detailer to clean the bugs and bird poop off.

our options right now are basically the old oregon trail or route 66.

We've been following weather good and we look like we are pretty clear.

That will be the day. Just wait, I bet Scott will post that he left, then 29 hours later that he got there (as long as girlfriend stays asleep). I think it would be cool to follow the old route 66. Good Luck

I would take 40 if it were me. The roads are decent and the weather should be
as well. In Arizona I would stop at Williams. It was the last stretch of old 66
to be bypassed. This little town is very car guy friendly. There are steam trains
that go to the Grand Canyon. Also Sedona is just an hour south and they
have great scenery and beautiful sunsets. Further east in AZ is Meteor
Crater and the painted desert. There
is a hot rod museum in Santa Rosa,
New Mexico. The Corvette assembly plant and museum in Bowling Green,
Kentucky. I hope you have a safe trip.
