Hey, just found out that the Dallas Auto Show will be held March 3-7, 2010, at the Dallas Convention Center. Will Meguiar's be making an appearance there?
I was hoping to see them at the San Diego auto show but I didn't. I wonder which Auto shows that they do attend.
Meguiars was not at the San Diego Auto Show. I attended the first day, and the whole show was swirl city. Beautiful black Bentleys covered in swirls, beautiful custom cars (brought in by SEMA!!!) covered in swirls.
The auto shows you guys are talking about are not "car shows" like you are used to. These are put on by the auto manufacturers who have contracts with their own detailing services.
When I say detailing services, I mean people that walk around and dust and wipe the cars down with paper towels

I was wathicn Barrett Jackson the other night and I saw a blck 56 T Bird that went for over $100K and when they put the hood down, it was swirled. So much so in fact that my wife noticed it too and asked me why the hood was scratched up.

Yep. Actually feather dusters. One of them (wearing a blue shirt with some patch about detailing services) observed me angling my line of sight along the hood of one car and asked me what I was looking for.
I asked him if they were given enough time to polish the cars before the show. He replied that the cars were washed and waxed before the show and therefore fully detailed. After asking a couple more questions, it became evident that he (along with many of the others) were college students just earning extra income between semesters, and they were hired just before the show opened.
If anything, I kinda felt sorry for these guys. One of them had the hood on one car open and was actually giving a little extra by cleaning between the hood and fenders. But one of the hostesses came over and closed the hood, giving the poor guy a dirty look.

Yeah, they aren't equipped, paid, or asked to truly detail the cars. Even the automakers fail to appreciate the value of a good detail.
At the SD Auto show I was asked to come and do the TV interviews on behalf of Ford and so I got to hang out with the head of communications for the west coast from Ford all day. I ended up giving him a full education on detailing, and even showed him the hack job and holograms all over the freshly repainted Lincoln C concept car (valued at $1,000,000).
He sent me an e-mail the next day thanking me for the knowedge
Mark that is the type of thing i witnessed at the show when i went last year! Only they were also advertising their business though lol. I think I remember one of the Mikes saying alot of the cars at the Jackson auction are swirled to heck cuz they only wax and wash and then wipe down right before they are taken on stage no polishing.
Mark, its so cool your in with Ford like that! I keep seeing their commercials and new cars and really like the direction they are headed, leaving most of the other american companies in the dust imo. Wanna get me a special ford pass for this show hahaha

Heh, if you were on the west coast I could make it happen, but I don't have any contacts in that region
Ford does seem to have a lot of momentum right now... stock has more than quadrupled in the last year, and preferred stock has gone up 10x!!!
The new Focus comes soon, and of course the Fiesta, and new Mustang V6 (30 MPG and 305 HP!!), 5.0 V8 (412hp/390tq), new F150 drivetrain AND new Superduty diesel and large 6.2-liter V8!
They have a LOT still in the pipeline just for the next year or so... expect them to keep it rolling
