Re: Should i be offended by this guy's emails?

Looking at the aerial view of your neighborhood, I would find it hard to sneak up to any dwelling out there. And that area looks like it would have a high percentage of the population owning guns.

Next, after having to arrive in a place that looks to be wide open with nowhere to hide, facing unknown risks of alarms, dogs and shotguns, forcibly enter a secured building, what exactly would he steal? A customer's car? Some buffers? Your stock of 105/205? It be a lot easier to jack a car from some elderly person in downtown Lafayette. Of course, he wouldn't get any 105/205, but the risks are so much more in his favor!

I wouldn't worry about this clown at all, seems like a 14 year old just out to be an email jerk. Or maybe he just got an orbital buffer at K-Mart to go into the "detailing" business and wants to shake up the competition.

I think not. If I've got the right location, there is no place anyone could hide, park or blend in without being instantly noticed. Maybe if they came in on their bellies in full ghillie suits, but don't forget the dog; an awful lot of work for a supply of 105/205!

I doubt that the dude is gonna try and break into your shop. There's way too many other lucrative and easier places they could go.
The way I see it, it's his loss. When you see a bran spanking new Challenger all hacked up driving around then you can have a little chuckle knowing that this goof ball made an unwise choice. Your pics here speak louder than any words would and unfortunately this guy will never know.

Yeah, that definitely sounded fishy. Could be the competition checking you out after seeing your CL ad too. I'd be more worried about the city coming down on you before I'd be worried about this guy breaking into your place.

Yep, I would stay as far away from that person as Japan is from my front door. That type of customer, if legit, will NEVER be happy. Secondly, just from reading it sounds like a scammer/thief.

Look at the bright side. At least you didn't give him your bank account #. No worries just be a little alert about activity around the shop just to be on the safe side. I've seen professional shops turn out hack jobs so that shouldn't make a difference. Just continue turning out great work and you'll be fine. This guy might be more trouble than the job is actually worth so it may have been good you aren't scheduled to work on his car.

Re: Should i be offended by this guy's emails?

email the guy back and tell him they got a $39.99 detail special at your local gas station. and will have it fully detailed within an hour so no dropping off for him if hes worried about that. he probably doesnt know anything about "detailing". probably thinks you need a store front or have to be mobile only. but i think some of the best detailers out there do the best work out of their own garages.

i wouldnt worry about too much. just keep your eyes open for any funny activities. hope all blows over. good luck

Sounds really fishy, my guess: Local Competition trying figure out pricing and services.

I wouldn't worry about him having your address, in a google world, it's very easy to find anybody's address.

Even if this guy was legit, I'd pass on servicing his car because he sounds unrealistic.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am hoping that it wasn't some sort of scam. As many of you have eluded to, my wife also thinks he is prolly some of the local competition checking us out. The thing that offended me was the claims he made about us not being licensed or insured which is false. It is just irritating because I know there are a lot of people that won't take the time to set up a proper business and we have. As far as us working out of a shop located behind our house I am confident in the quality work we put out and have not had one customer yet that has been unhappy. I know eventually that there will be someone that may not be happy but you can't please everyone. We strive to give the best service and work we can do and pride ourselves on trying to give the client more than they expect.

That kind of guy sounds like the kind of costumer we used to get once in a while. He probably wants you to make his car look better than new for next to no money and he's being a pain so that if you do his car he will complain so much when he picks it up that you'll let him have it for free. Better off without him.

Unfortunately this is part of trades.I have been working under contracts in a few garages in places such as deep Africa,Indian ocean islands,France and the UK.Each four months or so we have that kind roleplaying "to be" customer or employee, some of them sure give brain storms.Guess by now i could right a book about these guys .All i can say is to stay on the right side of things at all times even if difficult situations.
Roleplayers always get caught sooner or later.
