What's your opinion on treadmills? I'm against it because it feels different from actually jogging, and the friction between your feet and the actual ground is gone (the artificial resistance is very different, in my opinion).

Treadmills - Yay or Nay?

Re: Treadmills - Yay or Nay?
I use mine daily. I don't like running in the rain, snow, etc. I like to run while watching a big screen tv.I also use a recumbent exercise bike and various weights and exercise balls and spend an hour and a half a day working out.
I don't find much difference in running on the treadmill vs. running outdoors except that the time and miles seem to go by faster while watching TV. (Fox News usually to get my blood pumping. LOL)
It terms of getting and or staying fit the treadmill is a great tool. With a treadmill there is no excuse for not running. Bad weather no longer enters into the equation.
I also am a member of the LA Fitness center and when I'm away from my home gym I visit their facilities. Basically I got rid of any excuse for not exercising.Jim

Treadmill for the old geezer. No bad weather (hot,cold rain etc) inside.Usually read a car mag and listen to my ipod. Lots of nice scenery at the gym to keep me motivated,ha ha.

Re: Treadmills - Yay or Nay?
I personally don't see the point of driving to a gym, getting out and walking/jogging on the spot, then driving home.
Do what I do to get to work:
- Park your car in a secure and under cover parking lot;
- Walk briskly for 15 minutes to work;
- I actually walk past a gym on the way and chuckle at the people in there - all that energy being expended for no real work done (granted, the scenery is much nicer in there though)
- Do the reverse in the afternoon, (chuckling again at those in the gym);
- Return to your beautiful clean and secure vehicle and drive home.
Works for me!Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: Treadmills - Yay or Nay?
Treadmills can become very expensive clothing racks if you are not careful. We have one, but it doesn't get used as much as it should. I would use it quite a bit for the half-marathon training, but not much since.NOTE: Post count does not reflect actual detailing knowledge.

Re: Treadmills - Yay or Nay?
I prefer outdoors. I like the changing scenery. Besides, when I run on the treadmill, I tend to wander side to side. It ***** when your watching tv not paying attention and suddenly half your foot steps off the side of the tread! Dang near face planted AND pulled a groin trying to recover from it. I'll keep running outside.

Mr. Michaels, don't you live in Florida? You CAN work out year round down there outside.
