    Re: Kick the habit!

Hi Mark. You did really well.I always averaged 2 packs a day aswell.

Although, eating a lot of sugar is bad for your teeth,so is smoking.Once your teeth get stained, there's not really anything you can do.Abrasive pastes wear away the enamel on your teeth.

I never bothered with this years ago,but recently I only smoked where my computer is.The walls in the rest of the house are still white.I get bored to tears painting. That is a big bonus.

    Re: Kick the habit!

I quit 2 years ago. I was smoking 2 packs a day. March 1, 2007 was the day I quit. I went through the whole nicotene patch cycle and it worked wonderfully for me. I went through a whole bag of tootsie-roll pops that first day. From there moved to a 3 lb bag of wintogreen life savers, it lasted more than a day I promise. My mom was horrified at all the sugar and damage it would do to my teeth (moms!) so I switched to chewing sugarless gum. The hardest part was the habit. After I woke up I would light up. I would get into my vehicle (horrendous I know!) and the first thing I would do is roll down the window and light up. I would smoke after I ate. I would chain-smoke at my computer. All of these triggers took months to break. For months after I quit I would automatically roll my window down every time I got into my truck, laugh at myself and roll it back up. I would search for my smokes every time I sat at my computer. I would pat my pockets to make sure I had my cigarettes any time I left my house. It was hard but I don't miss the cigarettes at all. I coupled it with getting a gym membership and working out. I did really good but keeping up with the gym turned out to be harder than quitting smoking! I really should go back to the gym but that's another story.

Here's to you and your success! You can do it and you will love yourself for it!

17812 cigarettes not smoked, saving $7,338.95.
Life saved: 8 weeks, 5 days, 20 hours, 20 minutes.

I got this program on my computer when I first quit called "SilkQuit" and it counts the stats for you. I found it quite inspirational when I was quitting. You can download it off the net for free I think.

Quitting was the best thing I ever did! And I was a pretty heavy smoker. If I can do it, so can you!
You're right Dave! The fact that you could keep a tab on that data helps.I'll have a look for it..Thanks.

That's why I need to get my rotary.I need to spend a lot of time keeping busy.

The big problem is when you have a night out on the tiles....! But I can avoid that at the moment and live like a monk? A monk with a Buffer?

I want to quit, but between the stresses of my job and the stresses of about ready to be a father......I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.
They rose our prices last year, I only pay about $5.33 for my Camel Wides, if they go up to 7 dollars then I may just have to quit.

Keep it up Eddie, I had to quit when I did my basic training, 4 months of no smoking. 5 minutes after graduation and I was back to puffin away.
I've just finished a gum that lasted two hours.now i'm onto the gummies...I'm a big kid

Imagine trying to avoid cigarettes in Cadillac with 5 other people smoking and a girl hanging around your neck, smoking and asking if you want one. It all has to do with whether or not you really want to quit.

I did when I started, Kools and Newports, as most people do. They caused the blood every now and then initially. I then began to hate them, Marlboro reds and Lucky Strikes became my smokes of choice. Lucky Strikes are still my favorite, but they are really bad for you; no filters!

Good luck to you, my mom did the patch and nicotine gum which helped her quit after many many many years of smoking!

However you do it, just do not wait to long. The LAST thing you want to hear is the Doctor telling you that you have to quit or else.... Un fortunately it was that kind of reality check that finally got me off of chewing tabacco. I went to chewing tabacco when I wanted to quit smoking. I actually found a harder habit to quit! Best of luck on finding what works for you!!

    Over here they're about 3-4€ a pack.Not to expensive.

I'm tryin' these nico chewin' gum things. They're really expensive.
Well, I don't anymore. I was 15 and 16 when i was "huckin' up blood", needless to say it was not fun. I have done a lot but detailing is my thing now.

That's ~$6, right? That's nothing, it hasn't been under $7 here in at least 4 years. It's at least $9 here these days.

I never tried those gums or anything, my friend used one of those plastic cigarettes that release nicotine and it didn't work. Cold turkey is the way to do it...

I don't know man, thats a tough one. I quit out of necessity. They are so expensive over here that I simply could not afford to. That and the fact that I was very tired of hacking up blood occasionally. I genuinely wanted to for economical and personal reasons, if you don't truly want to then you cannot expect to. Cigarettes hit $9 when I quit, they are $10 now. They are projected to continue to go up still!!
