Well Friday is going to be a huge/really rough day for me.
I go in for surgery #15 and hopefully my last or second to last. If you didn't know I was born with a cleft lip, palate and nose which requires surgeries in order to regain normal bone structure and appearance.
This surgery is going to be the final touch that all my doctors and I have working towards for the past 17 years. The day includes, Upper and lower jaw surgery, bone graph from both hips, gum graphs and minor plastic surgery. Everything should take about 6-7 hours.
The bone graphs are preparation for teeth implants in December, after the bone is fully bonded and ready.
Having this surgery was one of the toughest decisions I have had to make out of all of mine because of the huge appearance change it will cause. After doctor shopping, as I call it, we found a great doctor who I am very confident in, but it was still a huge decision.
Also it was a huge financial decision for my family because the teeth implants are not covered under insurance and will cost about $6500 each, setting us back about $20K after all three are done.
I'll be couped up in bed for a month and a half at least with my jaw wired shut for 2-3 weeks. See ya on the other side!!
