That's the main reason,Akimel. It's the same in most of europe. The windshield glass for safety reasons(vision),and the front sides to see the driver/occupant.
I get away with it because,I used 'light smoke',and nobody bothers.It looks similair to tinted glass(not plastic film) which is found on most modern vehicles.
I think most of the problems arise with 'mirrored','colored' or 'midnight black' tints.
Some places are more severe with their laws than others...
