Now I am able to drive My Mach1 to school. I ended up buying the California car cover, the storm weave model. It is a four layer cover. Now the problem is that my college requires cars to show parking passes in the windshields. I will have to cut a hole in the front of the cover, windshield it *****. Should I use a sharp knife? I am also going to tag it with my lisence plate # with spray paint or would that be a bad idea. How do you guys do it who have them. I do not want to lay it stretched out on the ground b/c it might pic something up and scratch it when I put it on. I would ask my dad what I should do but I bought it behind his back because he wanted me to get the cheap costco car cover.

Re: Got my Car cover, have a couple of questions
I guess you could use a sharp knife, maybe stictch the area that was cut to use one of those fray preventing kind of strips. Or both. It is over the glass so shouldnt be a problem.
Do you have some grass to do it on? A lawn with long grass might be best.
Maybe there is some way you could stitch the pass, or a second pass, to the cover?2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Got my Car cover, have a couple of questions
Cutting a hole will allow dirt and water to get under the car cover which kind of defeats the point of the car cover.
Not sure how complicated you want to make this or can afford to make this but if you mark where you want the section cut out and take it to a boat upholstery shop, or even an automotive upholstery shop that builds convertible tops, (It will be easier to find a boat shop that does this), simply ask them to cut out the section and sew in some clear plastic like used to make flexible, clear plastic windows.
That way Security can see your parking pass and dirt, wind and water can't get under the cover to scratch your Mustang's paint. Probably wouldn't cost too much...
When I had the custom top built for my truck I had them make the back window as large as it could be for plenty of viewing space and they said no problem. A quality top shop can do anything like this for you and they have the materials and the sewing machines to insure a neat job.
Look right in front of the roll bar... HUGE back window for a convertible top... basically it follows the outline of the back support bow.

Re: Got my Car cover, have a couple of questions
I do not have any grass to put it down on. So if I cut it, it may start to fray. Maybe I should not do that and talk with the campus police. Maybe they will let me keep th car covered but I will show them that I have the pass and give them my liscence plate number. I can't stich it on. It is a sticker that I stuck to one of those thigs that hang from the rear view mirror. Thanks guys. I will talk with the campus police maybe they will let me cover it without cutting a hole in it. Campus police are really picky and not very nice.Alex

Originally posted by J. A. Michaels View PostI would not even cut the top at all. See if the canvas shop can just sew on a clear pocket. This way the cover is not compromised at all. Then you can affix the sticker so no one steals it.
Or thinking outside the car cover if you will....

Re: Got my Car cover, have a couple of questions
Thanks guys for the ideas, All great ideas. I am thinking of all of them on which one to do thanks. I like the pocket idea. I am going to see which is cheaper. Thanks guys. People have been known to ripping passes off cars that people stick on the out side of the windshields.
Thanks

Re: Got my Car cover, have a couple of questions
I was going to suggest the clear pocket idea too.
The car cover I used to have, had a clear plastic pocket already on it when I bought it. It was on the back of the cover though - to allow you to display your license plate number I presume.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: Got my Car cover, have a couple of questions
I cut small holes at the base of my car cover and lather glue around the edges to prevent fraying. I use a thin nylon rope and tie the cover to the front and rear tow hooks, and throw a rope under the car and tie it to either side of the cover.
This keeps the wind from possibly blowing the cover off, and so far has deterred thieves. I took my Rx-7 to Kings Island one day and covered it, mostly to keep my all original black interior from getting to 400 degrees, and it was gone when I got back. There hadnt been a breeze, unfortunately it was a 90 degree day I would have noticed a strong breeze.... Heck I would have loved a breeze!!
I cant think of a better way yet to keep my cover from getting stolen when I go somewhere all day, so for the most part anymore I drive a different car...
