Re: Is the economy effecting your job/business?
I work for an architectural firm in charge of multi-family projects (apartments & condos mostly). I have been really busy all summer. A lot of my clients are seeing more of a need now for family type rentals. Families losing their houses have to live somewhere.
In talking with the contractors and subcontractors everyone seems to be doing okay but really having to work to get work. I just had a fence put up at home and the contractor said he had 14 guys working for him two years ago and now he is down to 4.
I would really like to find a different place to work but most of the other firms in town are pretty slow. Even though we are busy we are having a hard time paying bills since the clients are slow to pay or don't pay at all.
I really hope something happens soon. I having a feeling this winter is going to be a tight one.
Good luck to you and everyone else!
Congrats on 200 posts too!Scott

Re: Is the economy effecting your job/business?
Yeah I work at a car wash and I was only working weekends because of school. I was working all day on the weekends. I was cut to one day a week. I was upset because I was cut a day when the new guy did not get cut any days. I have been working at the wash for almost a year. I was thinking of asking for a raise? Other than that I have had less hours too on my work days. I was thinking of getting a new job.
Congrats on the 200 post!Alex

Re: Is the economy effecting your job/business?
I work in the RV industry and it is hurting big time! 4 major manufactures have gone completely out of business in the last year and dealers are closing their doors in record numbers. I know of 9 in CA. recently. The manufacturers still in business are cutting back, laying off and closing some facilities. It's similar in the boating industry.Barry

Government Contractor for me. Business is always steady. Maryland is blessed to be so close to Washington DC, Federal Agencies, support companies et al that the State is relatively insulated from large economic shocks. (Trust me it certainly isn't the business "unfriendly" politicians that love to dissuade many Fortune 500 companies from setting up shop here) However, I know several guys who run head boats on the Chesapeake that have been crushed by high fuel costs/cutbacks on spending.

Re: Is the economy effecting your job/business?
i used to work for a mortgage broker i recently was laid off do to the market, but thank god i had one or two cars to detail on the weekends from friends. Now i invested my savings in buying my gear for mobile detailing, but recently people dont seem to want to pay $25 for a complete wash or the $10 for my reg wash they told me they rather put that money in their tank, but i guess i will just have to keep on looking where people are willing to pay $25 or $10
