After reading Kevin's post about the stainless trim, I've been considering buying one of these, but have a couple of questions.

Are they basically the same as the G100 only on a smaller scale? Adjustable speed?
How hard is it to modify the Meguiar's pad to fit this machine?
Are they reliable? Hate to buy one then have it break down in less than a years time.

In a way yes.

Not neccessary. There is a number of pads out there with sizing that will fit.

While nobody outside manufacturer can speak about exact reliability I would like to point out Metabo is brand that has history and is known for making good products. You can find more on them here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabo

FWIW I have one for a while but amount of work that I have thrown at it is not of scale that could test reliability. I know OctaneGuy has been putting his to use for a while, and obviously Kevin Brown has too.

In any case Metabo has 3 year warranty if you register it immediately so your concern about it breaking within a year should be addressed with it.
