I have bought a Flex A Lite Fan. It is a Racing one that it came up to use on my thunderbird It is the 1300 series Fan. The page says note -Not for use with serpantine Belt drives becuase the water pump runs in the reverse direction of standard pumps. so what does this mean? it did come up under my Bird and in met all specs just wondering what that side note meant.

Re: I bought a Flex Fan but have a question?
a serpintine belt system is the newer single belt systems on most newer cars they are about 1" wide, I imagine your T-bird is not a serpintine system unless some one has changed it from the original along the way. I hope the flex works for you but my experience is that using the original with the original shroud works better, as long as the clutch is still good. good luck

Re: I bought a Flex Fan but have a question?
So the serpantine system is only new cars. I got the original system. Thanks for that info I leanered something today. Reason why I am asking this is because the notice in the box it came in had a warning about it so I wanted to check Thanks. I wanted to try it. It weighs so much less then the original. My friends dad has a 72 Duster and he put one on and recommended it to me.Same with my auto teacher.
Thanks for the help.

Re: I bought a Flex Fan but have a question?
Tinkering on this car is fun but frustrating at the same time. today when I was putting a new power steering belt on I was tightening up a bolt and snap the bolt sanpped in half and I had to drill it out. It is all fixed now. I was mad at myself for tightening it to much. Old cars are a adventure learning all the cool things about them.
Thanks for your help.

Re: I bought a Flex Fan but have a question?
A flex fans operation at lower speed takes HP to run and is not as controllable as an electric fan as far as temp goes . You will see that most new cars have gone to electric fans for weight and performance advantages. The flex fans I remember came in both metal and fiberglass with the fiberglass being quite noisy. I guess it's just personal preference. PaulLive like you're not afraid to die.Don't be scared, just enjoy your ride. Chris Ledoux RIP

Re: I bought a Flex Fan but have a question?
I bought the flex fan because the next thing i am going to say is no company makes a after market aluminum radiator for my car. I would really like to get electric fans they do a better job. I could have a radiator specially made for my car but i do not have the money to get a new radiator custom built. I am getting my radiator fixed, it got a hole in it from being old so i am getting it fixed and if i have more problems with it then i would look into getting a new radiator, to answer yor question tyler it is not a clutch fan. yes i have a two belt system so i guess I good to go with using it. I have the all steel and aluminum fan. I will say this when I did a weight comparison with FAL fan and my OEM fan the flex fan must have weighed at least a 1.5 half liter The old fan is small but thick. I did have to get a spacer the OEM spacer was not long enough and the Flex fans blades were touching the Expansion chaber to the radiator and the pullys and belts so I went to NAPA and I got the last spacer made for the new fan and is all good now. Fits to all the specs required to run the Flex fan. Thanks for your replies.Alex

Re: I bought a Flex Fan but have a question?
The radiator is in the shop getting redone. And so I bough the Flex fan because it will perform better than my OEM fan. The OEM fan did the job but not a great job. The car idles at 400 RPM and it heats up quickly when sitting still. Big motors need good cooling. So The main reason why I bought is because where I live there are quite a few stop lights in the area so when I am stopped at one the new FAL fan will do better than my OEM. Notice in the Pic there is a sticker that says Roddy-Quipped. That sticker is somewhat strange and i am dicussing that sticker with my International Thinderbird Club. Today I pulled a couple of codes off the pump and gave the codes to the Thunderclub International so they can do some reaseach. I searched the company name Roddy-Quipped and I found nothing. It is most likely it is after market. But it is interesting because the sticker was covered up by grease and it adds a mystery to the car.Alex
