  • Meguiars Environmentally friendly?

No I am not a tree hugger. I use the heck out of these products, and have come to a detail day in Irvine to learn how to use the products correctly. Now onto the subject at hand. My 9 year old was in science class when the class was asked how many of their parents used commercial car wash substances....He raised his hand and threw out the Meguiars name. The teacher then said that in order to stop destroying the environment that I should use Ivory soap to wash the car. Ummmmm that aint gonna happen. Anyway, question is how harsh are these products on the environment? I have never been one to like school, and would love to prove a school teacher wrong. I am going to check out what she drives too.....probably a big old SUV that pollutes everything around it..... You know the type, Hypocrits!! I have read through a bunch of MSDS's and did not see much that is toxic.

    I use the following products:
    NXT car wash solution
    Ultimate Quick Detailer
    Cleaner Wax
    NXT Tech Wax 2.0
    Hot tire shine spray
    All Wheel Wheel cleaner
    Gold Class Leather Wipes
    NXT Glass Cleaner
    Quick Interior Detaing Wipes

    Thanks.

I'm just sick and tired of the schools teaching personal opinions and theories as facts. We get this all of the time (5 kids). We've basically just shown our kids the actual science as opposed to the theories and opinions they are force fed in school. Seems like everyday they come home with some other "politically correct" but factually incorrect propaganda from school.

    Sorry for the rant

All of the Meguiar's wash soaps are biodegradable. Always wash on your lawn when possible to reduce the amount that flows into rivers and lakes.

I would like to see the facts behind the ivory soap comment.

Just to throw this in. My teacher asked me if my detailing chemicals were eviromentally safe. I said that they are the best least toxic products and will not harm anything. My teachers at my school are way messed up. They ask us about the enviroment and what I say back to them is I do not care I will drive what I want to drive. I believe the gov is behind the schools giving schools all this bogus info and telling them what to teach.

What you have to focus is on the washes most than anything and all Meguiar's washes are environmental friendly, they are biodegradable

Which your car picked up from where? Oh yeah! The environment!

I won't even start to talk about the government of environmentalist because Meguiar's Online does not tolerate that kind of behavior if you catch my drift.

                Re: Meguiars Environmentally friendly?

All of Meguiar's products meet the VOC (I think that is what it is called) standards in Irvine, which happens to have some of the most stringent requirements in the country.

I probably pollute more when I start my Jeep to move it so I can wash it than the soap would ever pollute.... Just think how much I would pollute if I started all 4 at once!!

You're so wrong... why do we need to teach kids anything these days? Why would they need to know math and do it without calculators when there are calculators sold for really cheap everywhere! Our children learn enough from informative reality shows and music videos, so there really is no need to know the real facts about life, as it will just make them sad.

It sad but so true. Because the info comes from a teacher,be it opinion or just talk. It carries a lot of weight. Then the parents have to set the kids straight. At least the parents who care. Then it starts a a deal with the teacher and parents going back and forth sniping at other. No one wins.

I think Meguiars is more than environmentally friendly. We lost our beloved #16 because of VOC problems with it. So, if they cut out a major product to follow the law, then they work on ways to keep their products enviro friendly AND make them work still.

She probably does drive an SUV or an old nasty smoke puking volvo diesel LOL. Or she could be driving a Prius......

Which is a joke in itself because to make one requires a HUGE amount of resources and actually (if I remember correctly) makes it less 'environmentally friendly' than driving a gas guzzling SUV for 3 years or something like that. Even better, it is proven that the most environmentally friendly thing you can do is to not buy a new car at all, rather keep your old one running (or best of all, buy an old 80's eco-box like the CRX). The Prius is SUCH a joke because the factories that make the Prius aren't up to par, and it requires 'stuff' (to keep it simple) to be moved across the world and back again JUST to make the batteries.

OK! No more typing about this for me! This stuff brings out the worst in me, and everyone I believe. Strangely, this reminds me a lot of the movies Left Behind and the book of Revelation in the Bible on how this world is only going to get worse and worse. Not saying that to be a pessimist, but just the honest truth.

My only answer to all these 'political' arguments is to stop looking down at the problem, and sideways for who to blame; rather look up for answers.

finally, someone else knows about this, ive been preaching to the prius lovers for years about how awful their car actually is, besides being harmful to the environment, scientists also dont have an effective way to dispose of the $8k batteries that have to be replaced ever 5 years or so; that car itself is just cheaply made. toyota makes some good stuff, but this isnt it, they've got much of the population wrapped around their finger. Another thing, Im tired of car companies bragging about their cars getting 30mpg, that's not all that impressive, especially when European cars (granted they are smaller) are getting 50-60+. Sorry, rant over
