The dumbest thing I did was to my 95 GT. I tuck that car way over in the garage to keep it out of the way, and backing out I clipped the side mirror and broke it off and left a 4 foot scuff on the paint. A couple new mirrors (hey, they gotta match perfectly) and some rubbing and it was all fixed. I was mad at myself for quite awhile.

I was in tiny accident with my T-Bird but it was not my fualt there was no damage done to the car except a scratch in the bumper. The car tried to turn left and never looked back twice I slammed on my brakes and and I did not even know if I hit the other car it was that light of a hit. I did press any charges on the the car who pulled out in front of me. She said it was her fault.
My Mustang I bumped a parking curb and scratched the bottom of the bumper and knocked the alignment out. I know I have had a lot of things happen to my cars and bikes but I am a very protective person of my things and hate to see things happen to them. I was so upset at the person that pulled out in front of me.

Why did you let a Deer ride your Ninja?

The dumbest thing I ever did with a car, it wasn't mine, was an old game of Alley Rally. A friend had a Pinto we used for a shop class Frankenstein and after the various experiments were performed we took it upon ourselves to test the results. Long story short, we just packed a 302 under the hood and decided it was time for Alley Rally. Flying down one of our favorite alleys we hit a garbage can, as often happened. This time the can was full of concrete and it won. After jacking the rear end up and shoving it over a couple times to get it pointed down the alley again. We drove home swearing we'd never 'do that again'. I guess the owner of the can was tired of it being hit by maniacal teens in Pintos. We retired "Franky" after that run. Turns out the owner of the can was a local Sheriff. Nice guy as it turned out, taught us how to operate a jack hammer on our weekends for the next month. That was a good mix of Concrete in that can.

Someone had moved one of our trash cans into the driveway, and as I leave before it's light, I backed into it, leaving a nice dent in the rear liftgate.

Thankfully paintless dent repair was able to get it nearly perfect, but man was I pissed at myself the rest of the month.

Dumbest thing I had done to my car was after a complete repaint (white), I wanted to add stripes to the car. Back then I was a huge fan of european rally, and Toyota was sponsored by Castrol. Since my car was white, I wanted to add red and green stripes to look like that. That looked great in my mind, but quite less in reality. Since I had paid for that, I decided to leave them there and the car eventually died years later still wearing them, but never again will I do such a thing. I remember my mother calling my car the "Christmas candy cane".

Some years after that I decided to repaint my Tercel's rusted lower door section and taped newspapers only about 1' around the area. I used a sandblast machine, some body filler, primer, paint.

1st, sandblast residue came out of the vents for MONTHS.
2nd, the car was COVERED with primer overspray, even when clean, you could see and FEEL the overspray when you put your hand on the car. The white paint had become grayish.

Fortunately, that was back when I was starting to learn claying with a Quik Clay kit. The clay ended up completely gray, but the paint was very slick and ready to be waxed.

I'm crew chief for a couple of Rally teams in Jamaica. One day we came back into the city, from a few particularly muddy special stages, for a super special stage to take place in the heart of the business district. I had been working for the entire three days of the rally so I decided to spectate and watch this stage and leave my assistant in charge of the service crew (big mistake but that's a different story).

I decided to not wash my pick up which was covered in red mud from roof to undercarriage, you couldn't tell what colour it was, figured that the mud would keep the crowd from leaning on it. That didn't work, parked in my prime spectating spot, jumped in the back and enjoyed the show. The crowd was so big and packed tight that when the stage was over and I was leaving, almost every body panel had been wiped clean. Needles to say alot of scratches were left behind. Never taken my truck to a special stage again. Park well away and find a roof to spectate from.

Back in 1990 is when I got my first truck. I bought it off my cousin and the first thing I did was wash it. It was later in the evening and that's when I noticed a couple of rust stains on the chrome wheels. I thought to myself, I know what will take this out. I grabbed some SOS pads & started scrubbing away. The next morning I noticed all these fine scratches. I kept the same wheels & after a few months of polishing the scratches dissapeared. Never again.

About 8 years ago, my wife went out to go to work, and her Civic had a dead battery. So, I pulled my truck up next to the Civic to jump start it. Well, we were in a rush as she was needing to leave for work, so I jump started the car, then put the cables away. My truck's hood was operated via hydraulic pistons, so I reached up, grabbed it, and slammed it shut. I then grabbed the Civic's hood, and jerked down on it to close it, and the hood folded up like a taco - I had forgotten to take the metal prop down that holds the hood up. Since my truck didn't have one, I wasn't accustomed to checking for one before closing a hood. Well, the prop completely broke, and the hoold folded over. I was able to flatten the hood back out in order to close it. I then had a body shop massage the hood for me, but it was never perfect. I felt so stupid.

For me it would be the time when I was about 14. Had no idea of properly detailing cars. My grandfather had even less knowledge. He went to a local store and bought a tin of wax. He wanted me to wax his car. No problem. Read the directions thought they sounded odd, but I was doing what I was told. He bought a tin of Johnsons floor wax. It was applied to the car, and surprisingly it gave a finish that lasted for about 6 months. Long term effects on the car? Did not know. But it was pretty dumb applying wood floor wax to car paint. lol.

I decided to try and pull my car in really quickly into my garage and my bumper met the edge of a few bricks. It took the paint right off of it and left a decent dent.

I was taking a turn in the winter and it was one of thoes easier turns in that it was less than 90 degrees and the ones you can take faster.

I was going a little faster than I should I hit some snow/ice and it started spinning and I thought I was in control, then I hit the lane that didn't have any snow and the wheels gripped and spun me around for about a 360.

No one was coming so I didn't hit anything, but the car died on me during this. So I go to start it again and the thing doesn't want to fire. So I'm thinking I killed the engine and I'm the dumbest person in the world.

I then realize I should have it in park when I try to start it and it started fine. I have since be a little more careful in the winter, even when trying to have a little fun.

I think the worst thing I have ever done to my car was I took it to Future Ford of Roseville and Jackson Ford Mercury to get it serviced. The poor thing...
