  • So what did you guys think of the Daytona 500?

I think the 50 Anniversary 500 was boring until the end. I am glad that Ryan Newmans Mopar one the race instead of Stewart and his all new ride.

I'm a Stewart fan but was glad Ryan Newman won, first win since '05. Glad the Johnson/Gordon combo didn't win. I wouldn't have minded if Jr. won the race. I woke up from night shift and saw the last 51 laps. Those 51 laps were good. My wife and kids were at her moms house and watching on big screen. The kids say when I watch a race, Tony loses. LOL. So....when a race is on and Tony is winning, I'll go outside.

I got the ESPN special on Earnhardt Sr. and the old races had so little cautions and the cars went faster, no flags for debris, spin outs when no one really wrecked. I hate the flag for debris or someone wiggles on the track, FLAG!!!!!

I love racing, I got the Dale movie pack for my birthday and going to watch it this week. Working nights *****!

Yeah i hate that when they throw a flag for something like debris or even for a spin out when the guy recovers they still throw the flag. Same with the green white checker, If there is an accident with 10 laps to go they should just let them race if it is not to serious.

I thought the race was ok. I really liked the first half of the race. No cautions. Just flat out racing. Glad Stewart did not win. Was pulling for Jr.

Watched almost the whole race. I've been a fan since the 60's. It was evident to me that NASCAR has changed the cars/rules in such a manner that you have to be part of a team or have a friend on the track to have any advantage. I do not think I saw one car go over 187 MPH. If you didn't have a drafting partner, you stayed in the pack and battled it out fender to fender. Notice how no one hooked up with Tony Stewart in the final run.

My opinon is that NASCAR has castrated the sport and inadvertenly advocated having a team of drivers/cars to be competitive. Eventually this will cause a backlash and they will loose market share or change.

Good points Blue. Since the death of Dale Earnhardt (my favorite driver since a wee lad) it's declined, not just because it was DE but he was a leader and had good input to NASCAR officials and leaders and they listened.

I still love to watch the races though. I got my wife into it and I think she knows more than me :| She knows the tracks, where they are it's cool. She likes Elliot Sadler (I think cause of the M&M car) and still does. She likes Tony and Jr, hates the JG/JJ combo. She also was glad to see Newman win. The boy likes Bobby Labonte, 3-4 girls like Jr., my oldest likes Gordon, the last girl isn't interested I don't think. I can't wait to go to a race someday.

The way NASCAR is dictating things, NASCAR will go the way of the IRL in a few years. Wanted Jr. to win, but was glad to see Newman come through. It is always nice to have someone win who comes from the same state you live in.

I have been a fan since the 60's to. No offense Blue67, but people have been saying that since Nascar started and it is still growing.

I have been a Nascar fan since birth and had a chance to watch the race and must say that I although I am a Stewart fan I was happy that Newman won the race hes a good guy. I will say however that I am starting to get a little fed up with Nascar and I am sure Dale Sr. would turn over in his grave if he saw what it has become today. Yes I do drive a Toyota but is has NO place in an All-American past time. And what is up with concerts before every race? Im glad to see they are raking in money but they are forgetting about the fans and how much they care about JUST the racing, the grit, the crashes, and the good ol' American time you have smelling the burning rubber and exhaust fumes. I do not think the founders of this great American tradition ever intended on having Kelly Clarkson or some rapper do an opening act before every race. I will continue to watch it but I must say I have lost some respect for Nascar. Now I watch European Manufacturing Racing on SPEED, that is straight up racing without the glits and glamour. Sorry for my ranting ahahaha

I thought it was a sweet race. Had a great ending and Im kinda glad ryan won. Ive always been a Gordon/tony fan but its hard to like tony now that he went to toyota. Nothing like seeing Dodge pull off a 1-2 finish.

Im starting to become a Jr fan so I would of liked to see him win too.

I am totally agreeing that since all these pre shows of the race and having Toyota race will hurt Nascar. I hope they open their eyes soon to see what is going on, they are hurting the American past time in racing. I think Toyota should not race and they don't have the right to buy their way in to the sport.

It was a fairly good race. It got a little spread out in the beginning but that's been happening a lot lately at the plate tracks. NASCAR needs to open up a little when it comes to suspension. The teams are in such a tight box with suspension and the racing is hurting because of it. Also, tires. Years ago each track had specific tires that were used. Today it seems like they are only using a few compounds and it isn't cutting it on all tracks. Anywho, I expect with time they'll get more flexible and the racing will get better and better. The sport sure did change 7 years ago, some for the worse - some for the better. The 500 was better than I expected. It wasn't a crash fest like the truck race and the last hundred miles was what it's supposed to be like. I would have liked to see Jr win but I'm glad for Ryan. He came so close last year but never got that win. What a way to end a drought and to start the new year. Now Jr. needs to end his drought and it'll be all good .

Used to big a big NASCAR "stock Car" fan. All of life in fact. But it ***** now. It's all about the jack. Like many who have posted before, too many "NASCAR yellows".....drivers now all sound (bit) the same and plate racing is the worst (yes, I know its for safety), when you make 30 to 40 cars equal and make it so no one can drive away from the pack, it just makes for one big (in money too) wreck. For the record, most racing is boring these days, F1 the best example of this!!!.....Bring back the days of AJ, Dale (Sr.), Cale, Big Al, Mario, Allison and company!
