  • Dupli-Color Temporary Shield?

    Hey all,

Ran across this product the other day, wondering if anybody has tried it and what your opinions are. Its called Dupli-Color Shield (duplicolor.com/products/shield.html). It is a temporary spray-on shield that is supposed to protect against tar, bugs and road grime. It says you can wash it right off with "no damage". Just wondering if the "no damage" statement is true, and how it will effect the paint.

If any one has tried this or heard information on it, please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks for any responses!

Hey there, i just bought 2 cans of the duplicolor shield, then i saw your post. Did you, or anyone else, try this product? I am going to give it a shot on my wife's '07 red pontiac vibe. Would be great to get some feed-back before i try it.. if not, i'll post my results next week. It's love bug season here in Mississippi!!

Looks like the stuff they use at the body shop my father works at. They use it to help keep over spray off the cars while working on them. I've never tried it though...

Ive seen it, and wanted to use it on the family's white Accord.
I ended up not trying it out of fear it would not come off easily!

I used this product over a year and a half ago (when the post was made) and it didn't damage the paint at all, but I don't know if it did anything good to start with. The fact that you can just wipe it off with your finger isn't real promising that it will stop a bug from going through it at 75-85 mph. I think it helped a little bit, but I wouldn't go buy it cause its amazing.

Well then I will not be buying any. I was intrigued because its "Love Bug" season here also. If it bought some time before you could properly clean the front end I thought it may be worth it.

I didn't even notice the date on your first post Ryan.

Hey, I remember something from that long ago. Wow, I'm not losing it.

Wipe it off with your finger? They had to use a pressure washer in the video. Reformulated product?

Yea I watched the video, and thats what made me buy it, the fact that it took a pressure washer to remove it. But not in real life...or maybe it was all that NXT on it?

It would make sense that the surface it was trying to bond to would make a difference.

Thanks for all the input guys. I feel better about it now, knowing that someone tried it and it didn't turn into a removal nightmare. I don't expect it to be a miracle product. Like someone else said, if it will buy me a few days and keep me from having to wash and wax the front end of our cars every night then it's worth it. I ordered some cause I couldn't find it locally. May take 5 days to get it..but then I'll share my results.

Cover the front with a few layers of painters tape.
