  • Is there a minimum number of characters for a search?

If I search for APC or ASD the search comes back with no results. I know there are plenty so what's up with that?
It's only weird because it's not normal

I just searched for #83 and it didn't work either... Seems to me we use to search with just the number of the product? huh?!?

Just e-mailed Ross and his e-mail says he's out of the office today, so as soon as he's back to work and answering e-mail we'll post the details...

Re: Is there a minimum number of characters for a search?

There's not been a change to the product search on meguiars.com in about two years. I tested things out today as was able to get expected results for any normal search.

Our search looks at the entered string and searches for the exact combination of letters within the product name or description.

I don't know of any products which contain the letters 'apc' or 'asd' consecutively in the name or description, which would explain why those searches were empty.

In the case of the search for #83, the # is not part of the product name nor is it in the keywords, therefore the search coming up empty. I searched on just 83, and it works fine.

There also is no minimum number of letters (search on 'a' a be prepared, since it returns about everything!).

I hope this clears things up for everyone

I just tried searching "a" and still got nothing.

Are you searching the forum or product page when you are getting results?

Ok, now that is strange, I search for 83 or just the letter 'a' and get 'Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. '

After some experiments i established that the minimum number of characters is four. I think this is very well proven by the fact that queries like "car" of "wax" show nog results. Allthough with * (wilcards) you can fool the system and you can search for "apc", "car", "wax", etc.

Now that seems to work fairly well.... you might get a few inaccurate posts.
