  • Portable Bead Blaster. Need opinions

Hey guys and girls. Haven't been here lately but I've been showing my Meguiar's sticker proudly on my Civic.

I was walking through the tool department at Sears the other day, and saw a portable bead blaster. it just runs to your air compressor, and then you have the bead blaster in your hand. sort of like a long wond like the power washer. it was $50. I was wondering if you guys thought this would work? the only bead blasters I've ever used had the gloves that you put your hands in and then inside the bead blaster.

Also, if the portable bead blaster would work, is it okay to bead blast the rust off of your exhuast pipes?? i usually rip a tire off at shows to show off my brakes and suspenion, but the pipes have rust. is it okay to bead blast this??

    thanks a ton.

What you've use in the past was a blast cabinet. The blaster itself was was the gun that you were holding through the gloves. They work the same way whether inside or outside of a cabinet.

Blasting without a cabinet gets the abrasive media everywhere. I wouldn't recommend it on your car.

One possible exception would be a spot blaster. They have a little rubber cup over the outlet and a recovery port. If you press the cup against the surface tightly enough to seal the blast media is contained. These are only meant for small spot work, not blasting large areas.

That one's from Eastwood but you should be able to get one from any supplier of paint and body equipment.

That spot one looks helpfull for touch-up paint if you have rusted out spots, but would be quite the investment for just a dab of paint.
