  • Hey I got bored and got my TDS meter in today so I decided to try it out

    Tap water:

and the outside water reads the same . This is how bad the water is that I wash my truck with. I can't wait till I get the SpotFree water filter (still saving up for the 2500 unit).

    Filtered Drinking water:

Arrowhead water (yeah the spring water stuff that comes in a bottle):

    Aquafina water:

    Aquafina's HydRO-7 purification system works.

SunStone Herbals, they're located in AZ and they're right down the street but they have a web site where you can order from them online (They're having a sale on the TDS meters) I got mine for $18 and it retails for $30. Btw they got good customer service too.

You can check other retailers from the HM digital website.

I keep cases of Aquafina in my car at all times. I try to tell people it is better than other waters and people wont beleve me. If I drink a cup of arrowhead I can tell it is not as good.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Penn & Teller's show "BullS**t" had a show about bottled water. Basicly, aquafina's water is the same water that pepsi uses in its drinks, just without the syrup and other ingredients. Same with coke and desani.

They also mentioned most bottled water is really just municipal water, not exactly straight from the spring.

Pardon me, but I don't think TDS is bad for drinking anyway is it? Isn't that just a breakdown of mineral content in water?

Our city water is very soft. I checked it with a water hardness kit that I use for my aquariums and it reads almost zero degrees of hardness.

            Not bad for city water.

Some would argue that high mineral content would be a good thing for drinking but I don't think there've been medical studies to support that hypothesis.

As for personal taste, well, it's personal. IIRC most people don't like the taste of really pure water. Of course high levels of some minerals will taste and smell bad too (sulfur comes immediately to mind).

I have to agree that Arrowhead water doesn't taste good, to me anyway. My favorite is Crystal Geyser. (Both are pumped out of mountain springs here in California.)

If a given bottled water is municipal water that's been RO'ed, DI'ed, etc it'd be a good choice to carry around. Besides drinking it you can use it to rinse bird bombs off before they set in and it won't leave water spots. Sport top bottles let you give a good squirt.

                PC.
I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to soft city water. I don't know why it is so soft.

But down in the southeastern part of this state and in some parts of South Carolina, they are well known for a unique type of mineral water. It is so strong that it made this ginger ale world famous.

I tried a bottle of it one time, but that was about it for me.

                Sorry for getting off topic.

                        Off topic...but...

I work in New York City as a construction inspector and I have worked on many water main jobs.

You should see what's inside these pipes. One of the last jobs I was on, the water main was installed in 1898 and replaced in 2006. Can you imagine what "safe" chemicals and treatments that were used on old pipes like that? Never mind that the pipes are caked with rust, dirt, and deposits of who-knows-what?

I've seen pipes so bad that they almost look like a clogged artery.

This is why I drink filtered water.
