Have you ever felt like a moron

Just a little rant here...I went to a beach access with a parking lot to watch the fireworks here tonight. My sister wanted to come with me so I waited for her to get changed. Since I had to wait for her for almost 10 minutes I missed the fireworks completely (I was already running late). Then, the parking lot was soo crowded and so many people were trying to leave, I couldn't find a place to turn around. So I kept on going until I realized I was on the sand on the beach (The pavement was sandy and I knew the beach was up there I just didn't realize it was that close). Bad move. My little S10 has a very light back end and a kinda powerful engine. So I got stuck. I tried backing up, and got a little bit backed up before I had to stop because there were people behind me. So I waited a while, then tried to back up more when I could. I was too stuck to move though. Then the people behind me drove around me, and when I got a clear spot, a really nice guy helped me back up a little more (he pushed). But then I had to stop again. I'm sure by now you see the pattern. One time a whole family (2 kids, a Dad, and a Mom) were pushing me backward. Finally, I had enough room behind me to back onto the pavement, so the very kind guy got traffic both ways to stop, recruited two more guys, then they pushed me as I backed up. I didn't get very far out onto the sand, but each time I backed up, I only went a few feet before I had to stop. Finally, I got onto the pavement then backed to the side and turned around. I felt like such an idiot. Plus I felt even worse since my truck smelled a little like burning rubber and the guy told me I was burning up my clutch by pressing the gas and letting the clutch out so slowly.

Other than that I had a great 3rd and 4th. How was y'alls holiday?

PS If you are still reading at this point, give yourself a pat on the back. Sorry about the long, worthless post.

PPS Do y'all have any suggestions as to what to do in a situation like that (I mean when you are already stuck...obviously I shouldn't have ever gone out on the sand).

maybe next time just have a couple people sit in the back to weight it down? i know if i hit the sand, im screwed, my car is low haha.


and make sure and wash the underside of your truck soon :P


or just wait until everyone else leaves and romp the beach, if you didnt have anywhere you had to be haha

if it happens again, have people sit in the bed and let some air out of the rear tires

Yea, the only tips that I have heard about driving in the sand is to let out quit a bit of the air in your tires and then you should be able to drive a little better on the san.

Well glad you got out allright in the end, mate.

This happens a lot at the beach where we have a static caravan (we part own the beach), several times I've pulled cars/vans out with the trusty Land Rover. If you beach the truck, you're beat...

The funniest thing I have seen and done was taking my wifes Dihatsu Charade onto the beach as a dare and ended up going passed all these 4x4's that were stuck....never thought a front wheel drive 3 cylinder could do it but gave it ago anyway...

At least you're ok, I've seen some people try and unbeach themselves by flooring the pedal (When in doubt, Power Out!). You can imagine the car just sinking further and further into the dirt...

One of the things I got told to keep in my car early on was a plank of wood to give a jack enough support on soft verges to lift the car. It should help some when your beached, the wood might give your tyres something to bite on when you're trying to move.

I'm not familiar with the S10... is it a rear-drive/front-drive/4wd? Maybe less gas and less slip on the clutch, so that you're transferring the same torque but at a lower rpm? You've probably noticed its the wheelspin that kills it, so the less revs you try an drive through, the easier it should be to get moving.

Only let air out if you have a way of putting it back in. There is no possible way you can safely drive on pavement without enough air in the tires.

I have felt like a moron too, but not in front of others. At least not often.

I recently went on a vacation with my Folks to tour the Outer Banks. We were looking for one of those beach accesess for vehicles adn we found one. We got stuck too but in a heavier 2000 Ford Expedition 2wd. My mom wanted to do it but.... we got stuck all the way up to the frame rails. As we tried to dig ourselves out, people were passing us and not even giving us help at all when they could have clearly pulled us out. We got pulled out for $45 (we got Jipped) by a recker crew.

lets just say if I had 4wd I would have stopped and helped, but those people down there were jackasses, we asked them for help but they kept on going.
