  • On Vacation and "In Search of"

    Hi everyone,

Just a note to let all my forum friends know I'm on vacation until July 6th. Whenever I can I'll be checking in and posting to the forum but until then I'll be kind of scarce on the question-answering side of things. I do have help watching the forum and maintaining the site so we don't expect any problems.

I'm heading to Bend, Oregon for a family reunion, which I think my son Rand is going to be a huge hit! While I'm in Bend I'm going to try to track down my 1970 Sanger Drag boat and see if it's still in any kind of sea-worthy condition or if its been wrecked and the hull has been damaged.

National Title Holder - 1976 Super Modified Class 1/4 Mile in 9 seconds at 122 mph.
    Owner/Driver: Rick Baker

Here's my son Rand about one and a half years old sitting in dad's boat before I sold it.

After the reunion we'll be doing some fishing and crabbing off the coast of Oregon with Dad, this should be lot of fun!

Tonight we're staying with the folks in Florence, Oregon; for dinner we went to Traveler's Cove for dinner and to watch my little sister sing and play the keyboard. My sister was born blind but has always been a very positive person and an amazing singer and keyboard/piano player.

Holiday & Vacation - Terms used in the car wash industry

Just for fun as well as to give this thread a Car Related Theme, the day before we left I snapped the above photo of a car where you could easily tell where the owner missed an area when they washed the car.

In the car wash industry, we use the terms, Holiday, and Vacation, to describe the area you miss when you wash a car. When you wash a car and you miss a spot, your co-worker or employer will often times catch it and if it's not to large an area they'll say,

"Hey... are you on a Holiday or something?

If you miss a large area, they'll say...

"Hey... are you on a Vacation or something?

It's usually said in jest, but if you're training a new employee then it's also a gentle way to point out they need to focus on the task at hand because they're missing spots and there isn't time to go back and wash a car a second time as like most jobs in the general category of the car care industry, it's all about speed and production.

Anyway, while sitting at the light and looking at the section this guy missed I snapped the above photo because I knew I could tie it in with this vacation thread and because I wanted to share the story with our community anyway... so there you go... this is now a car-care related thread.

More later, it's late and we have to get up early for our drive to Bend, Oregon.

Hey Mike......nice write up makes good reading

Hope you have a good time and everyone is well

A 9sec 1/4 mile in a boat........better you than me I get sea sick in the bath eh!!!!

On the picture where the guy missed a bit, that can happen when using only one bucket and therefore washing the car with dirty water

Oh and you're only having one weeks holiday.......dear me.......I need at least 4 to 5 weeks ..........I come off in 2weeks time for 4.5weeks .........I know...........it's tuff but someone has to do it eh

      Have a nice one

                    re: holidays and vacations

Mike... we use the same terms at the firehouse when someone misses a spot when washing the rig!

Here's Rand & Grandpa after they caught a Hermit Crab and a baby Crab on the Oregon coast.

                        Here's Rand holding a Starfish

                        Here's Rand fishing!

The fish were kind of small and not biting too much!

                        So we caught a Salamander!

                        Today were going Crabbing!
