I've been using Zaino for 2 years now, and I used Meguires Gold Class before that. I have a black Nissan, which is a single stage paint. With the Gold Class, the car would look great for 2 weeks, then it would have a grayish tint to it. If I put more GC on, it would look good again. With the Zaino, it stays black much longer, even months longer. I guess I have fallen victim to the add more layers ideal, but the Zaino just seems to last longer. Does the professional line last longer than the store bought stuff? I'm all for trying new stuff.

BTW, this is my first post here, but I've been reading and drooling over some of the pictures and results for a few weeks now.

When you say you add more layers, how often to you add another layer of the Zaino product to restore the paint back to where you like it to look?

Last year, I don't remember having to add layers, but this year I added 2 more layers. That was because of a local car show, and I wanted the car to look it best, or at least as best as it good given the age. When I used the GC, the car was outside all the time, now that I have a house with a garage, it stays inside most of the time. I do have to park in the open at work though. The summer sun may have been the reason the GC went away so fast.

First off, you have to take anything that a "Z-head" says online with a grain of salt. Most likely, they're trying to push their product rather than take the time to help you with the actual process of applying it or getting the "best results" (Disclaimer: While there are some friendly users of Zaino, the majority I have encountered online seem more content on telling me why their product is better and the rest, i.e. carnauba products, are inferior).

When you get right down to it, I could care less about layering and the benefit of a gazillion coats of a product on my finish (as if two well-applied layers isn't enough?). I want to know how I can achieve the BEST results in the shortest amount of time and with the least amount of product possible so that I can spend more time showing off my hard work.

That's one of the reasons why I turned to Meguiar's. Their company representatives, and not to mention loyal users, spend more time explaning to you how to achieve superior results rather than why their products are better than the rest. Like the old saying goes, if you have to blatently advertise that something is the best, then you sure know that it really isn't. The products should speak for themselves.

In a nutshell: Stick with Meguiar's and you won't be disappointed. Their friendly, no-nonsense approach to detailing is far better than some "wannabe" company that resorts to unsavory marketing practices.

I'm sick and tired of these "Z-heads" and their foolish rambling on the Internet...

I have used Zaino in the past. It is an excellent product. My Vette always looked great. Ask Mike Phillips. He knows. I have always used Meguiars products for all the prep work. A couple of years ago I switched from Zaino to Meguiars as wax/sealant and my Vette still looks excellent.

In June I went to Barry's speed shop (Wrecks to Riches) and spent quite a bit of time talking with his body shop guy (Tony-aka the Gnome). He told me that they make their own wax. So I got some. Currently I have an experiment going on my Vette. One side has M21 and the other side has Gnome Wax from Barry's speed shop. Guess what, both sides look excellent and are holding up extremely well after 3 months.

The bottom line for me is that most of the results come from the prep work and Meguiars has an outstanding line of products for that. They also have great wax's/sealants. Meguiars is my product of choice. Once you get past the marketing, you find out what really works for you.

I was a big Zaino user years ago. Through time my finished never improved, no matter how many coats of Z I put on it. The marks kept getting worse. I was using the towels Sal recommended. I didn't know what a swirl mark was.... That is when I bumped into Mike P. online and learned the finer points of paint polishing. Thanks Mike!

The secret is in the polishing, not the LSP

Although, when you look at the photo below......

Is there a Meguires product that will last like Zaino does?

I have never tried Zaino, but my favorties in the Meguiars line are 21, 20, and NXT, and I really like all of these topped with either 16 or 26 for that little extra if I have the time.

I have been very pleased with the durability of M21.

I've had NXT last at least 6 months with weekly washings.

With the use of a spray wax, I'm sure it could have easily lasted longer...
