        DSL for $12.99???!!!

BellSouth is the big cheese around here, and their DSL light is about $25.00 to $30.00 a month, depending on the phone package you currently subscribe to.

Road Runner is $50.00 a month.

Yep you'll see a huge difference between dialup and broadband. 56k(dialup) compared to dsl which is 768k - 1.5 mb or cable that is at 5 - 8 mb's. Dl speed that is. Usually upload is around 350k
            Your download speed : 6373 kbps or 796.7 KB/sec.
            Your upload speed : 327 kbps or 40.9 KB/sec.
            I'm on comcast cable

              Time Warner Cable
              Download Speed: 6063 kbps
              Upload Speed: 350 kbps

Very quick compared to dial-up but Cable is not as good a value as DSL. If I could get the SBC DSL I'd switch. Around here DSL is less than half the cost of TW. Unfortunately, I'm outside the DSL area.

I work in this type of enviroment and can tell you personally that DSL and Cable speeds very everywhere you go, so its good to check around and check with neighbors and friends. That being said here are some examples. I have Verizon DSl 3mb down 768 up, my in-laws have Charter cable and IT BLOWSSSSS, during peak hours their cable is no better than 56k, I do not have peak hours. My friend has Adelphia he works for them so its good dependable but their customer service is shaky, Also they did some unfair BS business practice, They were promoting Cable in a specific neighborhood so the engineers pumped up the bandwith by denying bandwith to surrounding communities THATS F-D UP, Both SBC and VERIZON are spending major $$$$ on Verizon,s Fios network and SBC/AT&T,s Fiber to the prem. Each line will accomodate a 20MB connection that is dedicated to you, no sharing , only problem is $$$ do the math. A DS3 connection is 45MB up and down, there are 3 DS3,s in an OC3, and 768 DS3 in an OC768 so 45X768 /20 =1728 cust on one OC768 right. WRONG Both companies use packet switching so they should be able to put thousands on the OC and you the user will not notice the difference.
Some San Diego areas have a really good cable network thats because when the built the network the put fiber nodes in everywhere and only the last little bit was copper coaxial cable,

In the everyday world we use fiber optics for everything that is above a DS3 "45mbs" everything else is copper DSL,T1, But new technologies are changing everyday we can now push 20mbs thru one standard twisted pair wire using HDSL High-bit Digital Subscriber lines, other wise known as T1,

                  Sorry for the long post.
