Thanks Tim. Went from a 15" to a 17"screen, man what a difference. See if Megs has a friends and family day at a Officemax. That's what ours did, got one heck of a deal.
Specs: AMD 3400+
512 DDR RAM
160GB HD
They gave us 200.00 US off, no rebates!
Now just need to learn this PC as well as the other PC!

Wow!.......That "is" a jump.
XP is much more stable than 95 or 98 in my opinion. You can shut down an offending program without having to reboot....(Most of the time anyway).
Did your's come with a restore disk, or is it built into the hard-drive? A friend of ours took a jump from 95 to XP and I came over to assist her with the initial hookup. Her's was an HP Pavilion and the restore info was built into the drive itself....No disk!

Hey RB,
My Pavillion has a partitioned hard drive where the restore is located. I am not sure if I like that feature or not. I have had to use it once, and it worked just fine. But there is something about having the disk that makes me feel a little better.

Tim
I know.
I was concerned that if our friend's HP hard disk died, then I guess the OS goes with it?
I wonder if there is a way to copy the restore files to another source? Would be a good question to ask HP.

Here's a link I found that looks like it might be of help to all of you HP/Compac computer owners that don't have a separate System Restore Disk. It appears that you are allowed to burn (1) copy of the restore files to a CD or DVD.
Hey, was reading manual on lunch break. It tells how to make a copy of System Restore Disk. Will need to do this.
Question: Do I need to do it now? Also need to get Service Pack 2 from Microsoft?. Or should I wait for DSL? Consumer reports recommends it. Thanks.
If your using 56k, deff wait until you get a faster internet, those service packs are large, and take me a while to download.
Good choice on AMD processor. They seems to be more stable than the P4 Prescotts, or at least more than mine, Of course I'm running 3.6GHz overclocked hehe.
You'll love XP, its sooo much better than 95 or 98. Isn't it amazing what a differnce a monitor makes? I upgraded from a CRT 15" to a Flat Screen Sony 19" its great!
Service Pack 2 should already be installed on your computer. It was available in 2004 and is nothing new. To make sure you have it, right-click on "My Computer" and go to "Properties." Alternatively, you can press the Windows key and the Pause key together. This will bring up the System Properties screen. What you probably will need to download is some critical updates from the Windows Update site. For that, I would wait until you get a faster Internet connection.

I agree.
Kelly, if SP2 is not on your machine then PM a mailing address to me and I will burn you a copy of it. MS (Microsoft) sent me a copy of SP2 in the mail right after it came out.
It's about 250mb in size and would take a mighty long time to download via dial-up!
