  • GE's super repellent plastic

Reported that it is so repellant that honey rolls right off it. This means buildings basicly clean themselves when rain falls on them. Imagine the uses for cars.

Though, applying waxes and polishes might require new techniques should this actually come out on the market.

Theres a side article on the Autosalon mag I'm reading where Nissan have made a paint that is, for lack of a better term, self-healing...

      (Australia/NZ) Issue 40, p82:
"'Scratch Guard Coat' contains a newly developed high-elastic resin that helps prevent scratches from affecting the inner layers of a car's painted surface."

We might be out of a job in a decade if they keep this up!

I'm sure someone said that ^^^ when clear coats first came out, so I'm wondering what the catch would be.

Sneek, GE have developed a polymer. If they could get it to stick to a surface such as aluminium they could manufacture a paint form. The article mentions coating buildings, so we know it sticks to _something_. And if the properties are right, they could use it as a resin for Aramid/Carbon/Glass fibres. We see a lot of cars made with that.
