Anyways.
I have had a rash of business lately cuz of all the spyware and trojans out there so here are my list of goodies for everyone to use. and best of all they are free.
I am using a bunch of the programs you recommended, so that helped my laptop.
I figured out the laptop and got that handled.
This problem WAS with my desk top computer. It doesn't do it anymore. It is problby too busy sending my bank and credit card information out to everybody!!LOL!
Sorry to hear this.
I think everyone here has given a great information to protect everyones PC's. I can't add anything more, but i would recomend 6Robert2 way. You sould try it and see if it will get rid of this anoying problem.

NOD32, Webroot Spysweeper, Webroot Window Washer, and Zone Alarm.

Most novice PC users would end up in the hospital even attempting to use a Linux distro, especially one that isn't boxed.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with Windows XP. A Trojan Horse was downloaded which will continue to propogate itself.
You could try to the following procedure:
1. Disconnect your computer for a network
2. Go to Settings->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs and remove any suspicious looking programs.
3. Run a spybot program
4. Reconnect your computer to the network and see if the problem has been resolved.
I tried this procedure and could not remove the Trojan Horse. I ended up reinstalling Windows XP and all of the software. It was a pain.
Now, I run Norton Ghost to backup my disk drive to a second disk drive in my computer every night. If an unexpected program gets installed, I backup my mailbox, Quicken, and other directories and restore the system disk. This procedure has worked very well. I have had to restore the system disk twice in 2 years.
Wow, what you have is known as a "browser hijack" and it seems like a particularly pesky version of one that won't remove easily.
Here are some tips:
- clear your cache and cookies
- as some people mentioned, try ad-aware, and spybot S&D, make sure you have the latest defintions.
- if you have java installed, go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com this is an utilityless function, and has removed malware from my computer after the two above utilities have given my computer a clean bill of health.
- use firefox rather than IE. Not that it's more or less secure of IE, but many malware writers takes advantage of the fact that 90% of users use IE.
Browser Hijacks aren't necessarily virus, which is why it's not being removed by a virus scan. I know Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition version 10 is starting to remove malware.
I ended up downloading Spy Sweeper. It found 31 spyware programs and over 400 traces. Another reason to keep my kids off my computer! My brother installed a new hard drive with an 8MB memory cache and 7200 speed vs my old hard drive with a 2 MB cache and 5400 speed. Huge difference!
I'd also suggest using the Opera browser. Incredibly fast!
yay spy sweeper! sorry to say it again but wow its fast and it finds millions of traces but instead of opera i use firefox the only draw back is it blocks flash, however you can fix this but typing something like about drivers in the address bar and allowing flash but i prefer to just stick with it blocked

This is probably not the page you’re looking for. Sorry about that.
4. Burn it to the same CD or place it onto the flash drive.
Restart your computer. Right after restarting it, begin hitting F8 like there's no tomarrow. A screen will pop up asking how you would like to boot into windows. Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
Once into windows (safe mode), install Mozilla Firefox and Ad Aware from the cd or flash drive. Run a full scan of Ad-Aware while in safe mode. After the scan, remove all adware found, then restart your computer.
You should boot directly into regular windows. Job Done.
