    Re: Can You Type?

I average about 88WPM (after deducting for error rate). Raw is between 90-100wpm if you count the errors.

Was a hunt and pecker until I took a typing class. A few months later I was doing about 48WPM and over the years it has just increased.

I work in the IT field so I pound out the bytes all day long.

      Re: Can You Type?

It may have to do with me being young but unless I cant seem to find the button im trying to press I never look at the keyboard. They had us taking computer classes/typing courses back when I was in 6th grade and through highschool. Course I do have some friends that still do the hunt and peck lol.

My dads office set up bugs people lol, has nothing to do with typing but he can write left handed and right (primarily right) so has his mouse on the left side so he can write with his right. Said it always messes people up when they try to do something on his computer

        Re: Can You Type?

I rocketed to 30wpm in high school and that's where I stayed!

I thought I would never use the typing skills ever again but alas, I use them in the Jail all the time to book our newest clients in. I can keep up with the new kids that are almost half my age.

Thank you Mr. Wright who taught typing in high school! Glad I kept up with it.

After building websites with freeservers and using a lot of HTML coding, I think I got clocked doing around 60wpm or so.....I helped our jail get some funding as they chose me to do a typing task and I beat the score needed by a wide margin!

No idea how many wpm's I am. Does it matter?

That hunt and peck thing sounds like the Bible method of typing. You know, seek and ye shall find?

                Re: Can You Type?

I remember typing classes being a big deal going thru school. But I never learned to type the "right" way. I use only use eight fingers but don't use the proper sides, if that makes sense. But having the computer be a bigger part of my everyday life and now with work being a MASTER FINALLY on the num lock. I avg 65-70 wpm, and I fine with that.

                  Re: Can You Type?

I was born and raised by parents that make their living using computer and we've always been techy people. I don't know how fast I type, I know it's a lot faster than most people.

Once I switch to my touch screen phone from my huge ergonomic keyboard it gets kind of hard.

Just type lightly, you'll type faster.

I typed most of this post without looking at it (keyboard) myself.

Been trying to learn how to type properly for a while now. I've almost learned all of the letter keys so far.

                    It's slow going though.
It's been four years since you started learning to type without looking at the keyboard.

                    Any progress?

                      Re: Can You Type?

Back in the stone age. I took the typing class in high school. Did enough to get to 40 wpm without errors. Typing helped out in one assignment I had in the Army. Did not type for years after that. Then computers came out. I was starting from scratch again. Now I feel comfortable typing again.

                        Re: Can You Type?

I learned how to type my freshman year of high school. Best class I ever took because of the useful skill it taught me. I can type over 100 wpm now and when I finished with the class I was typing over 80 and was faster than the instructor but I made more mistakes. Now I can honestly say I rarely do make a mistake. The only problem I have now is that sometimes my fingers get ahead of my brain and has to slow down so I can keep up.

                          I guess I'm just average.

I just had to take a placement test for college, and one of the test was typing to calculate how many correct words a minute one can type, I guess I did ok because the guidance counselor was amazed that I had 54 cwpm..whatever..lol..

                            Re: Can You Type?

I had a typing class back in middle school, but not again since then. At the time, I had a hard time learning "proper" technique because they wanted us to be 100% accurate without looking at the keys at all. Kinda silly, because honestly who needs to do such a thing? Is there a shoebox over your hands when you're at work? How about when your writing a paper for school? Seriously. I still look at the keys some times, and I really only use 5-8 fingers when I type, because I type fast enough to get my work done and beyond that I couldn't care less about typing faster.

Let's not go there. I kinda got aggravated with the process and gave up.

However, I can hunt & peck with the best of them.

I type very fast, always without looking at the keyboard; though I often make lots of mistakes.
