Norton slowing me down

Another bad thing about their software is that is tough to completely uninstall from a pc. Norton/Symantic's stuff tends to spider itself into the registry and it almost takes a reinstall of the OS to get rid of it!

My gripe is that it is inefficient. It doesnt really matter the power that your computer has. Across the board, Norton uses way more system resources than it should. Main thing I think that causes the slowdowns is how much Norton accesses the hard disks.

AVG, on the other hand, doesnt compltely bog down the hard disks, making it somewhat transparent.

Another gripe I have with Norton Antivirus is it's online subscription service. Manufactured computers such as Dell usually ship Norton with a free year of software updates. After that year, users must pay up. Thats not really a gripe, in fact I think subscription services for security software updates are a great idea. It is the fact that that many people are having trouble with going about doing this. I am a freelance computer repairman, and I have recieved many calls about people somehow screwing up during the Norton subscription payment, thus losing $30-45.
