What happens if you wash your car after compound??

I have black hyundai Veloster, and did applied 1'x1' area of M105 for removing bird dropping etching..
First, I washed my car...
all dried, and start applying M105 compound using hand foam. Really gently....and when compound start getting thick and gone...I cleaned it with microfiber towel..
It was really glossy,, I couldn't see any marks left.. I was so happy with it.

After several days later, I know see some murky marks where I applied compound... Just like I was scrubbing it with sand paper.

Question I have is, what is compound do? is this a additional coat that always gets off when I do car wash?

or should I do waxing every time I do the car wash to get rid of this murky..fuzzy marks??

well compound do polishing, lol.
Yes it's like sanding without the paper.
The act of "polishing" is to "make it flat", like a mirror, then you get the reflection, like a mirror.

What your seeing is what we call Marring.
Very fine scratches, you have to now polish these out.
This is the art of a detailer, knowing how to make it reflective.
Wax is the "sealer"/last step/gloss.
You wax when it's not shining enough, not protecting anymore, ect.

Oh,,, I see..
So what I did was "making it flat"...well it was good glossy shining when I first applied. Is that mean its time to wax it?
Unfortunately, "marring" is not going to be removed..just sealed with wax? and every time I do car wash, this seal will be gone so I have to do another
waxing??? wow...thats a lot of work...
so that means I only need to use compound to "make it flat"... and after that what I really need is "WAX...to seal it" right?
Is there a good wax that I can apply after using compound 105?

M105 is one of the more aggressive compounds Meguiar's produces and will often not finish wax-ready. Usually, you will have to use a less aggressive product to remove the minor marring. The widely accepted process is to follow 105 with 205 for an LSP-ready shine. Since M205 is only available in larger quantities, you also have the option of some consumer products that may clear the haze. Swirl-X, Ultimate Polish or #9 Swirl Remover would be my choices of readily-available products.

I'm pretty confident your car has the same soft paint as a black Genesis sedan I worked on. I used MF pads with D300 to remove scratches, so M105 is probably too strong. In the future you want to remember to test with the least aggressive method first before jumping straight to a compound.

I'm sure Hyundai has pretty similar paint application. I am still not sure after reading Mike's nice instruction.. So, after having haze that came after M105, what step I should do? should I apply Color X (is this compound or wax?)? I have 1'x1' area of M105 treated, but should I go entire car covered with Color X?
And the answer that I'm still looking for... was what happens if you do a car wash after all this applied?? do M105 compound again(I guess this is not a good idea since this will keep damaging my clear coat..) and re-wax it with Color X?

I would go with Ultimate Polish, as you can get it anyware, or 205 if you can find it. Then a wax of your choice.

A compound needed to put fine scratches in the paint to remove the big scratches or bird etchings. The compound will leave marring behind ( the amount of marring is dependent on paint hardness ). To remove the marring a polish like 205 or Ultimate Polish should be used. These polishes are made to remove the marring left behind from compounding ( witch was what was needed to remove the bird etchings in your case). This is all normal to correct the larger defect. Then wax will protect the finish to complete the job.

wow,,, thanks to all..
now I kind of understand how things works.

1. m105 compound..(for some defect removal)
2. m205 polish .. (for haze or marring removal that came after using m105).. which will give you nice glossy polish...
3. WAX!! (m205 will do most of glossy...shiny bling bling result but to protect this with additional layer)

so,..this is how it works huh??
As a newbie, this is a huge learning for me.. since I didn't know the difference between compound and wax.

my last question could be... then what kind of wax should I go for? after m205 ?

Use what ever wax you want. I love #20 alot. NXT is available everywhere, lasts along and is close to #20.
But you can use what ever wax you'd like, just your preference.

Wax is protection that needs to be reapplied3-4 times per year. Your choice.

ok...now I have a final question..(I hope this is final...)
This M205 polish... Is this ok to apply through the whole area or should be used only at the area where I did the compound?
M205 will not do something like M105 did to my car right?

so..1. small defected area with M105...
and 2. polish "THIS" area only with M205...
and 3. do the waxing the whole area with #20
or
1. small defected area with M105
2. polish whole car with M205
3. wax whole car with #20

which one is right way to do it?

I'm so frastrated with black car right now....hew...

it was me. I would compound the whole car paying attention to areas which have a notable defect ( doing the entire car will make it look all the same) . Then polish the whole car to remove any fine scratches and improve the clarity. the protect the corrected paint on the car with the wax of your choice. Adding the clay bar step before any of the others will improve the flatness and look and feel of the paint.

That's what the forum is for.
205 is my go to polish on 99% of my customers.
Most customers won't pay for a full correction on their daily drivers, so a light 205 polish works great.
205 was designed to follow 105 but it's a great polish that works by its self.
So polish away!

imz4n, I think compounding whole car is not a good way since i only have small area defected..and I would keep original clear coating of my car as much as I can...
so,,I will go out now and buy m205 and @20 wax to make things work!
I will post photo showing before and after so other newbies like me can refer to..
