    Re: UW liquid smearing

UPDATE: Just got done doing the black truck , I tried many different methods of application and removal . Still would not set up good IMO and streaked like an SOB. I think I am done with the Ultimate liquid !! Don't get me wrong I love Megs products but this one just does not cut it for my uses. I will QD the truck with either UQD or #34 to clean off smear residue. It has very nice depth and shine , but man my customers would never accept this as it is .

I will try the paste wax version. in a couple days (weather permitting) if that does not work better then I will do 20 , 21 , and 16.

Well just my .02 , back to the drawing board for me .

I've been a ULW naysayer before, but I finally got some good results while detailing a friend's car this morning. I usually prefer to use M21 or NXT for ease of application, but by the time I got done washing the car, the sun was already starting to beat down, so I decided to give the direct sunlight-friendly ULW a shot. There is definitely a sweet spot when it comes to removing this sealant, as others have said. Wipe off too soon, and you can feel it grabbing at your MF towel. Hit it right at the recommended 3-5 minute mark, and it wipes off super easy. I did get a slight bit of smearing in a couple of spots, but this was easily fixed by flipping to a clean side of my MF and wiping down the affected area a second time.

The technique that seems to work best for me is to start by applying UW to two panels. By the time I finish with the second panel, I go back and wipe down the first, apply UW to a third panel, go back and wipe down the second, and so on. I'm a bit methodical when applying waxes (I like to take my time and do several overlapping passes), so this practice works well.

I will say this though . Today it snowed and rained ( Didn't know that was going to happen to my clean truck....arg !!! ) anyway the beading was simply stunning . I have never seen something bead like that on my hood . Granted it was just waxed yesterday , but still a wow factor on the beading.

Maybe it's just more noticeable on my black truck , that shows every little imperfection. I excited to try the paste version.

This product can noticeably darken darker colored paints, and the polymers bond to the paint pretty quickly. Since it's darn near impossible to lay any wax down 100% perfectly uniform, if you let this sit a bit too long and it's at all uneven, you'll see that dark and darker look due to the polymer load being left behind a bit unevenly. If you wipe off sooner rather than later you actually help to redistribute the polymers a bit before they've gotten too far in their crosslinking process and the uneven appearance goes away. But it really does need to be applied very thin, which should be super easy given the thin film technology in the product. In fact, even on a dark colored car it should be a bit tricky to see where you've applied and where you haven't it will go on so thin.

If you have the paste version but haven't tried it yet, you really should. While the liquid version is the ONLY wax/sealant in our lineup where we suggest the fast wipe off noted above, with the paste you should treat it like all of our other waxes and let it dry fully before wipe off. But that's easy to do because it dries pretty quickly - as soon as you're done applying it to the entire vehicle it should be dry where you started the application process. As mentioned in another thread, over the Thanksgiving weekend I waxed all three of our cars at home with the paste version in one afternoon. Super easy on and off, not a streak, smear or uneven color to be found.

Be advised, however, that while the liquid version won't stain black plastic and vinyl trim, the paste can. But that's down to the ingredients that make it a paste, not because of any "active ingredients" being different from one to the other.
I have the same problem I applied it very thinnly But was extremely difficult to wipe off after just letting it dry a little. I would like to try the paste but i would like to see some pics after product was applied and wiped off on a black car before spending 20 dollars on some wax.
