  • New Bottle of Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax Smells and Looks Exactly Like #26 Hi Tech Wax

I just purchased a bottle of Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax from local parts shop. It came with a new artwork on the same burgundy bottle. The interesting thing is, when I open the bottle and squirted some out to test, the liquid wax looks and smells exactly like the hi tech #26 liquid wax from Meguiar's mirror glaze product line!

I applied it onto my trunk lid using an applicator pad. It spreads very thin and is very light and liquidly, which is a little different compared to the #26. The hi tech wax seems a bit thicker and goes on thicker as well.

But other than that the two are exactly alike.

    Any thoughts?

I thought this was better than alot of questions I have read on here. Maybe a search would come up with the answer, thats why nobody responded.

I not entirely positive but from things I have read comparing Meguiar's professional to consumer is that that a lot of the consumer products are user friendly versions of their professional line. It it could be safe to say that the DEEP Crystal Carnauba Wax was based on the #26 Hi Tech wax and changes were made to it for ease of use

Thanks for the reply, kristina. You might have a point there. But I have both bottles at the moment and i have to say, the smell, color, and consistency are virtually identical. I have not done a side by side comparison yet since i've been using both waxes on a white paint surface and it's really hard to see the wax after the application. I'm gonna try both waxes on a black paint surface tomorrow and see if the 2 waxes differ in terms of application and result.

Btw, these are going for 5 bucks per bottle at autozone this month. Grab a few coz they work great!

While the products you mention may have similar characteristics, the one characteristic not so obvious is the professional line of products are formulated to also work exceptionally well with machine application. Not to imply the consumer line will not, just that professional lines maybe sold in "bulk" and used with a variety of machine buffers. Therefore, just a tad bit different.

The descriptions on the Auto Detailing Solution web site give some comprehensive descriptions and directions, as does the Meguiar's web page.

Hi wifpd4, while I agree with what you're saying, i have a feeling you most likely do not have these 2 products with you side by side. And is most likely "guestimating" the properties of these 2 waxes.

I will agree that the 2 lines of products are designed for different type of users. Volume buffers who needs a product that can endure fast machine application versus consumer who tend to be slow and uses too much.

What really intrigued me is that the Depp Crystal line of Carnauba liquid wax has changed its smell, color, and consistency. I have a 8 years old bottle of carnauba wax that looked nothing like the bottle that I purchased last week. Instead it mimic the hi tech #26 to the point one cannot tell them apart if both were placed inside 2 identical bottles.

I'm quite experienced with hand applying carnauba / synthetic waxes as a LSP so yeah, read through most of the DIY stickies on the major detailing sites, including Meguiar's own, of course. I don't normally use my dual action polisher with the LSP coz i want to apply using the least amount of pressure as possible. A machine buffer, even ones as good as the Meguiar's G110V2, cannot offer the amount of varying degrees of pressure done hand application.

I only use the g110 when I apply my UC to buff up the surface. Then i switch to hand pad for the LSP.
