  • NXT Tech Wax - How often?

I have started using NXT Tech Wax on my black Mercedes Benz. Very impressed. I am curious as to how often I can use the product. I was told by a local Meguiars "expert" that after the original application any follow up applications within a three month period would add no value, as the repeat application would remove the previous coat, not add to it. Does this sound correct. He further added that NXT is unlike traditional waxes and does not build up layers.

I put on a layer of NXT once a month. Sometimes 2 layers 24 hours apart if I have time.
I don't find NXT layers as much as other waxes, but up to 3 layers in a 48 hour period is noticeable. Multiple applications ensure you've got a uniform coat and got every inch covered.
There's definitely no harm in applying NXT as often as you like.
I don't think there'd be much point in building up 10 layers with NXT, like some other brands sometimes recommend, but 2-3 layers would be the optimum level.
You should wax your car at least every 3 months, more often if you like.

Thanks for the speedy response Mad iX. Given that you are a prolific user of NXT, have you found any white build up on the moulds and exterior trim? Or is the NXT Tech Wax exempt from that as the product claims?

I've always kept NXT away from trim as much as possible. I recall that it does stain trim, so whenever I accidentally get some in the wrong place, I usually wipe it down with GC trim detailer. Haven't had a problem yet.

I see adding additional coats for 2 reasons.

          1. As stated above to ensure uniform coverage.
          2. To help rejuvenate the existing layer. If your vehicle spends any time outdoors, that will accelerate the breakdown of the wax protection. Even after a month of weekly washes and the environment, adding another application of wax is an option to restore the maximum protection the product (NXT) is capable of.

Monthly waxing comes down to do you have the time or interest to wax every month. The NXT will last more than a month. I'm not sure of exactly how long after a month. How car crazy are you?

I used to wax almost every 6 weeks, well I take that back I would NXT then top with #26 a few weeks later. I would rotate back an forth with that process. Then I started detailing cars as a side business so now that leisure time is gone.

          Good luck

Thanks Scrub. I am not up to speed on the Meguiars numbers as yet. Which product is #26?

I assume I can just use NXT and stay with the one product?

NXT is mild enough that you can apply it as frequently as you want, but once a month or so is plenty.

The #26 is Meguiar's Hi Tech Yellow Carnauba wax........ and a very good one.

              This may help you....

Extreme durability & chemical resistance Easy-to-apply formula with incredible gloss & slickness Also works great on plastic trim, PPF & wheels ...

Sorry about the numbering thing. I usually post links like Mr. 429 did.

                #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax

                Better late than never!

Yes you can stay with one product. NXT is a great choice also. NXT is the main wax I use for my client's vehicles. I've tried a few but always go back to the "Go To" product.

Boss_429 where's that site you linked from?? Looks good.

So has anyone tried the paste wax yet? If NXT has cleaners in it will it take off pre exsisting coats when you layer it?

That is what my local "expert" said. New layers of NXT will take away previous coats

The cleaners in NXT aren't strong enough to remove any previous coats. In my experience, NXT has withstood Dawn wash and harsh high-pressure spray detergents. I did those as a test, not recommended for regular washing.

Try it for yourself, you definitely won't do any harm to your paint.

Well, I think Mike has addressed this question before. I believe the answer is.............. NXT will probably remove some of the previous layer, but not necessarily all of it.
