  • Color X - A Nice Surprise

I just had a rental car for several days.

Therefore, I wanted to keep it looking decent without a lot of work.

I cleaned the dust off with Last Touch, and then I used Color X on the entire vehicle. Wow! What a nice surprise. I had never used Color X before, and I had one of the old bottles, so I don't know if the formula changed with the new bottle that came out a year ago or so.

Nevertheless, for a 10 month old car, it made the paint very smooth and slick, with a decent shine. You'd almost think the car had been clayed, but no, just Color X. I was a bit surprised.

This is surely a great product for someone without a polisher to use before a longer lasting wax, or for someone less enthusiastic about car detailing to simply use after every few washes as a one step.

I wonder how long the protection it lays down would last?

Well, I just wanted to say, while many of us don't have much of a need for Color X on a daily basis, it's a solid little product.

ScratchX 2.0 is a medium/strong paint cleaner, mostly used by hand.

ColorX is a mild cleaner/wax, meaning it includes the cleaning, polishing and waxing steps. It is stronger than the maroon bottled Cleaner/Wax, but still milder than something like SwirlX.

So start with colorx and if that doesnt work go to something stronger like scratchx or UC?

If you're looking to specifically address a scratch or scuff, stick with a dedicated paint cleaner like ScratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound.

ColorX is, as Murr has stated, a very good cleaner wax. In fact, it's so good that if all you ever used on your car was ColorX and you used it every month or two, you'd be amazed how good that car looked many years later. Regular use, especially with a buffer, will prevent the build up of embedded dirt, fine swirls, etc and keep the paint looking vibrant and glossy for a very long time.

Well, ColorX is kind of on its own. Its not something I would want for defect removal by hand.

If you had defects, best to use a proper paint cleaner to try and remove them. SwirlX, ScratchX, and UC are the progression of paint cleaners for mild to bad defects.

You could certainly use ScratchX on a bad spot or two, then ColorX everything.

I dont even think I would wax a rental...you sir, have a serious problem, ha ha

I have been meaning to add a good cleaner-wax to my arsenal though as I haven't had one for some time. I will probably go pick up some Color-X and give it a shot.

I remember when I attended a Meguiar's road show class. Under Mike Phillips supervising, we wet sanded and waxed a rental car trunk. It was a lot of fun.
