  • Things that need to be protected

Is there a product to protect plastic, rubber, painted not wanting wax on surfaces like grills.I'm talking about things you don't want wax on and hard to keep wax off like your emblems Or discolor your painted bumper, Nerf bars.and where would i find something to clean like the plastic on the head lights tail lights.Just a thought do they use a spray for like emblems or just wax over the car emblems.

If the plastic is painted, it should be treated like any painted surface on the vehicle including 2 thin coats of wax or sealant.

For unpainted plastic and rubber you have a few options for protection:

Natural Shine Protectant - also available in wipes

Supreme Shine Protectant - also available in wipes

    Ultimate Protectant

    M40 Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner

    All Season Dressing

    Silicone Free Dressing

Personally I like a dark even sheen that isn't shiny so I use M40 or Ultimate Protectant.

Re: Things that need to be protected

For head lights ans tail lights, use Plast X

On the outside, I like using Hyper Dressing on Trim Diluted at 3:1 and All season dressing on tires. For stuff that is in the consumer line, I like using Ultimate Protectant on trim, and Hot Shine Tire Gel for tires.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

OK The center picture shows the the grill witch is a hard rubbery plastic Like the the corners of the front bumper, door handles& side mirror housing what product would work best for these? In the center picture too you can see the front bumper is Panted black metal along with the Nerf bars or running boards that is like a textured metal painted black is there a product that will work on these? And last there is the chrome hub covers and Silvarado emblem What could be used on these do you just wax every thing and don't worry about the residue left on the emblem(darn i hate that as mush as I hate them using lots of plastic and metric parts)Sorry for being so lengthy Thanks for reading &Thanks Again for the replies

Re: Things that need to be protected

Any of the exterior trim that is actually textured plastic and NOT painted is a good candidate for our Ultimate Protectant. Just make sure to apply it lightly and work it in thoroughly - don't just glob it on and expect it to soak in.

Anything that might be painted matte black (can't tell for sure how the front bumper is finished - hard textured plastic or matte paint?) is another story altogether. A vinyl protectant like UP isn't the right choice, but wax isn't really correct either as it will change the appearance and maybe even leave residue in the texture.

The chrome center caps on the wheels can cleaned up soap and water and then a coat of wax applied to them. If they do start to get some very tiny scratches in them our Hot Rims Chrome Polish is great stuff. Whatever you do, stay away from the Hot Rims Chrome Wheel Cleaner on those wheels!!! It is not compatible with the painted part of the wheels, and you will NEVER avoid getting on those areas if you do apply it to the centers. Just leave it on the store shelf. Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner, on the other hand, is perfectly fine for those wheels.
