  • What is the correct Process to remove fine swirls and deep scratches

Hi guys, im starting to enjoy or get a little passionate about detailing my new car .

I have been detailing by hand for over 10 yrs and have recently invested in some new products and processes. Mainly Meguiars the last 2yrs.

After purchasing my new car 4 mths ago i have purchased:-

Snow foam/lambs wool wash mitt and the 2 buckets system with grit guards. I use Meguiars gold class shampoo. And have recently clayed/dc01/dc02/nxt 2.0/dc03. spent well over 10hrs on the car.

The problem is this car is my first black car. Its a deep black pearl and looks great!!!! Only problem is very light swirl marks in direct sunlight. Have never had this on previous cars. I have swirl x2 but i have never used it yet. My understanding is this is for deep scratches and swirls. And not as a general swirl remover like dc01. So as the title suggests,
What is the correct Process to remove fine swirls and deep scratches.

I feel i may need to repeat the above and spend a little more time with dco1? Any help or suggestions guys? Or should I use swirl x2 all over then apply dc01/dc02/nxt 2.0/dc03?

Also what should i use to apply the above products? And buff off? I have been using the yellow meguiar foam pads to apply dc02 and dc03 and the purple pad to apply nxt 2.0 wax. And 100% cotton clothes followed by Meguiars microfibre towel to buff.

I think i will end up spending an evening do a complete panel at a time. I want my car swirl free

    Many thanks in advance.

SwirlX should be your starting point. DC1 will be too mild to remove swirls by hand.

Do a test panel with the SwirlX, and see how it goes.

As far as applying, I like a smooth foam applicator, and then a MF towel to remove.

Great thanks for the advise. Will give it a go. Dont get me wrong the shine and depth of the finish is great. its just those very fine swirls in direct sunlight. At leat my washing process with lambs wool and 2 bucket/grit guard will cut down on swirls & scratches.

Is there any wrong or right way to apply swirl x? I have always applied polishes/waxes in circular motions followed by up and and left and right to finish.

Give this a read through: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30910.

I agree with Murr, the foam applicators are the best for applying paint cleaners, cleaner/polishes, pure polishes, waxes, etc.

When I apply Swirlx or Ultimate Compound by hand I try and use straight line motions, usually up and down, as I feel I get the most out of the product. That is just me though.

The product will need worked into the surface (maybe a little, maybe a lot, depends on the paint, how bad the swirls are, etc) so you will want to apply in a manner than lets you work it in.

Usually big random motions dont allow for much pressure or passion to be applied.

I use Swirl-X It goes along way so use it sparily. I use about a dime to a quarter size.
