Can the NXT Tech Wax 2.0 be used as a stand alone wax?

    Re: NXT Tech Wax 2.0

Well, it will not work as well if you dont prep the surface some before.

I would at least do a Cleaner/Wax or ColorX, then Nxt.

What about using Ultimate Quik Detailer before the Tech Wax?

Using UQD prior to waxing won't gain you anything.

Before using any wax you should wash and dry the car, then critically evaluate the finish.

Run your clean, dry hand over the paint. If it feels rough to the touch then claying is recommended to remove these bonded surface contaminants. If you don't remove these contaminants then when you apply the wax you're basically trying to wax the dirt that is bonded, attached or otherwise stuck to the paint. Neither Meguiar's nor anyone we know of makes a wax for dirt. Claying is very easy process that doesn't take a lot of time or muscle.

Visually inspect the paint under direct sunlight or another strong light source. If you see fine scratches, swirls, etchings, stains, etc then a liquid paint cleaner is called for to remove these. Removing these defects will level the paint and dramatically improve reflectivity and gloss. This can be a lengthy process and when done by hand is a lot of work. We won't try and kid you here - it's a heck of a process when done by hand.

After those steps are done you can go straight to the NXT without have to do anything else before or after.

Now, none of this is to say that you must do these steps prior to waxing the car. It all depends on what you want out of the finish. for some, just a good wax job is all they care about. Others tend to be just a wee bit obsessive about this whole thing (you all know who you are, stop whistling and staring at your shoes!!). But it's your car, your time, your money. What do you want out of the finish?

Have you read through the 5 Step Paint Care Cycle? It might give you some ideas as to what to look for when evaluating your paint, and how to correct various issues.

You always have to properly prep your paint before waxing. Otherwise you will not gain the maximum benefit.

I couldn't agree with Michael Stoops more - great answer. I've gotten my results by doing two coats of NXT and following it up with a coat of HiTech Yellow Wax (26) - letting the wax cure between each coat of coarse. With both of these waxes you seem to get the best of both worlds- shine and depth.
