Yes, I did read it and found it quite interesting! The cotton that you get at the drugstore, Wal Mart, etc. seems like it's soft enough that it would not scratch. I'll have to try that sometime!

I had no idea that cottonwool was used in auto repair shops.

        Hi RamAirV1, you should.

Everytime I find a scratch on my car I take out my Scratch X and some cottonwool and whilst I'm using it I'm smiling the whole time, 'cause it works like a charm and almost without any effort (although use some pressure when applying it).

I used some Scratch X on my spolier this weekend and it worked quite well. Is using the cottonwool easier than the yellow foam applicator pad? My hand cramps when I use the foam pad.

That new MF applicator pad (which I forgot the name of) looks like it's made to order for Scratch X. I have some Viper MG Power clean pads that work pretty good..

While the Sratch X worked very well, it seems time consuming after having used a PC. But it's great for touch ups and small areas.

My take on the cotton wool with ScratchX:

IMO, using the cottonwool than just the applicator pad tends to increase the cutting power of ScratchX by hand. It's like using W8006 with #80 Speed Glaze via PC, though the former takes much longer.

At any rate, using this cottonwool with ScratchX by hand reduces the hard work (if not all) of just using the applicator pad and working it on.

Can do the whole car with this!
I wash and wash my car until the whole thing disappeared!

just to but in a bit here - when applying scratchx is it best to use a back and forth action or the normal circular motion i would use to apply a pure polish?

Back and forth motion seems to work best. Circular motions with Scratch X are OK too, it has never caused swirls for me.

When I'm trying to remove a lot of paint, (in other word, remove below surface defects), I find I can exert more concentrated effort to the area I'm working by using straight-line motions. After I've finished as many applications as I'm going to apply, I tend to make some cover-passes using gentle polishing motions in circles.

Hi RamAirV1 & Tripper 11, I'm happy to see that there are others who agree with me.

Using cotton wool is easier; your hand won't cramp and you won't have blisters

I agree that using the cottonwool tends to increase the cutting power of ScratchX. And you have more controle over it.

                      if anyone can answer this:

so scratch x can be used on the entire car - but would it be a step to include between the clay and say - #83 DACP? or would that defeat the purpose. scratch x is a pretty tiring step.

                      let me know! Thanks.

well in my limited experience of using it a whole 3 times now i think of scratch x as an alternative to those that dont have a rotary buffer. as u mentioned it really is quite hard work with scratch x , so i'd tend to keep it for problem areas such as those close to trim that you may not be able to get to with the rotary

If you have #83 and a PC, you can skip the Scratch X step. Save the Scratch X for touch ups, and getting areas that can't be reached by machine.
