  • When to use ultimate protectant vs. Supreme shine

Just as the title says, when should I use which?

Supreme Shine will be interior only, and a bit higher gloss.

UP can be for exteriors or interiors, and will be a bit lower gloss.

I actually use Supreme Shine on my tires and exterior trim. It lasts a while as long as it doesn't rain.......

Well, yes, it will work.... UP will just endure the rain better.

Thanks guys i apreciate it. I am going to try to detail my car for the second time. I've already clayed and used cleaner wax about a month ago but I didn't treat the interior or trim panels bc I had just bought the car and everything still looked good. So Im going to handwash dry wax(with nxt 2.0) and treat all the trim and interior on Saturday.

So, are Supreme Shine and Natural Shine both water-based?

Supreme Shine, Natural Shine, M40, Ultimate Protectant - they're all water based. M40 has more cleaning ability than any of them, and only UP contains polymers that allow it to set up and bond to the surface, giving it far better resistance to rain and washings.

Any of them can be used on interior or exterior surfaces, but there are certain areas where one might be a bit better overall than the others - like UP and it's ability to resist washing away in the rain makes it great for exterior textured trim, while M40's cleaning ability and great UV protection make it perfect for weather stripping, door seals, etc. But at the end of the day, they all offer great UV protection and are fine for a wide variety of surfaces. You'll always find someone who loves one product for, say, tires and another for their dash and then find someone else who uses them just the opposite. Personal preference certainly plays a role.

Now how could we forget GC Trim Detailer???? Also water based, great for all exterior trim, but it is not a rain or wash resistant product. It can do wonders for badly faded trim though!

what about applying supreme shine or natural shine to exterior pieces and sealing them in with UQW?

I will try that tonight. I have a coat of Supreme Shine on the trim right now, and will go out and put on some UQW. It is going to rain tomorrow and I will report back on the status.

Trim Detailer is my favorite for badly faced trim. It really does do wonders!

As for the previous question, I'm not sure applying a wax over any sort of trim detailing would work because the trim dressings would insulate the wax from bonding to the actual plastic. If that makes any sense, it's just my speculation
