Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
OK, applied the 2nd coat to the hood today and what a difference a slight change in conditions and technique make. Temps were in the mid 60s with the sun coming out around lunchtime. I also applied another members techniques I read about here for getting that thin application and it worked great. Misted the microfiber applicator pad with Quik Detailer and then put 6-8 drops of NXT 2.0 on the pad. I then folded the pad to spread the wax around just a bit and went to work. All I can say is this is the thinnest coat of wax I've ever laid on a car before! Let it sit for about 30 minutes as a buddy and I discussed some issues concerning the car club and then removed with one of the new Supreme Shine towels that came in earlier in the week. So much easier and much better results than before, this will be my standard method from here on out. Many thanks to all who chimed in on this.

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
The hood was not the only panel to be worked with UC, just the only one that gave me trouble. That thought had crossed my mind after the second attempt at 2.0 (after speaking with the tech rep on the phone) so I wiped the hood down with a mild degreaser to ensure a clean surface but the 2.0 still took it's sweet time to dry. Either way, whether it was my application or the temp and humidity or all the above it's looking great and I'll be laying down a very thin second coat on the hood this weekend. Oh look, calling for scattered showers......

As others have mentioned, temperature and humidity will play a role in how long it takes a wax to dry. A low temp coupled with high humidity has the potential to really prolong that drying time. Having said that, it is a bit odd that only one panel was giving you this issue. It could be that you had not previously removed all of the Ultimate Compound from your previous steps because your description of being able to "see a good reflection through the wax" sure sounds like you applied it nice and thin.
Looking at the process logically, since the hood was the only panel with the issue, and it was also the only panel that was worked on with UC immediately prior to the NXT application, that's how we arrive at this theory.

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
I'd guess that you either apply too thick layer of NXT or the surface is not completely clean when you apply it, hence the problems. I've been using NXT 2.0 from the very moment it came out and never had any streaking/smearing issues.

I find that with either paste or liquid you can apply the desired thin coat. Just like everything in life. Takes some practice.

Some people find they can apply paste thinner easier, but it is really up to you to do it right.

Would using the paste version make for a thinner application?

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
DC1/UC should leave a prepared surface, with no need for a pure polish to help the wax go on /off better.
If it is damp there at all, it can extend the dying time also.

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
Well, success finally after letting it sit overnight. I removed what I'd left on the passenger side of the hood and it came off without issue and the entire car looks great. Now I just have to apply the secong coat and hopefully not go through all this hassle again. I plan to let the car sit until later next week before I apply the next coat to the hood. I'm also amazed at the reduction to all out concealment of fine scratches and swirls. I've never seen this level of results with Mothers in the past. I'll try and have some pictures posted sometime today.

California Gold Sealer & Glaze (step 2 in their 3 step system). The hood however had no glaze on it when the 2.0 was applied the first time, it was bare paint.

Did you use:
Nxt
DC1
Mothers
Nxt
?
And the last coat of Nxt was easy to remove?
DC1
Mothers
Found fine scratches and dealt with them using Ultimate Compound which removed the Mothers
Applied NXT 2.0 first time
Removed NXT 2.0 and reapplied Mothers
Reapplied NXT 2.0
Thickness of application was considered but in the opinion of a couple of buddies that took a look at it and we could all see a good reflection through the wax I figured it was not too thick. Am I wrong in this?
And yes, it was easy to remove though I believe my towels were loading up so I switched to fresh ones.

Re: Problems with NXT 2.0
How thick did you apply it? remember thin is the way to go. It sounds like you applied way to much product.
