Plastx hazing.

Every time I use Plastx I end up with very light hazing. Plastx removes the scratches just fine but if I look really close in bright light I can see very light hazing. I use a clean foam app and work the product well to fully brake it down. I usually have to follow up with a very light cleaner/polish to remove the haze. Klasse AIO or P21S GEPC works well for this.

Is there a better way to work Plastx to avoid the hazing or is it normal for this product? I read a thread where Mike P suggested following Plastx with Megs Mirror Glaze Plastic Polish. Would this work well clearing up the minor micro marring I am getting? TIA

What exactly are you working on?

PlastX is great for removing light scratches, but think of it like a cleaner/polish. On your car, after you apply a cleaner/polish to the finish to remove the defects, you then apply a pure polish or a wax to take the results of the cleaner/polish to a higher level. This is where the M10 Plastic Polish comes into play.

When you say hazing, do you mean that you are literally seeing a white haze (or residue) from the product? Or is the surface itself physically marred (blemished)?

If it's the first, working the product for too long is more than likely the cause, since the product will have already began to dry.

If it's the second, then things such as the amount of pressure being applied, or even the type of fabric being used to remove the product can be possible culprits. Especially if it's a very thin and/or sensitive clear plastic.

By the way, what type of fabric is being used to remove the product?

I usually have to follow up with a very light cleaner/polish to remove the haze. Klasse AIO or P21S GEPC works well for this.

PlastX is a very light cleaner/polish. So if we had a white layer of product residue, using an additional cleaner/polish will always seem to "do the trick" since it will reactivate the residue. Try using M1808 Clear Plastic Detailer and a Micro Fiber Detailing Cloth for the final wipe.




Remember this: To get the highest optical clarity,whenever you remove defects from clear plastics, you should always work your way back down through the list of steps as well. (or highest-lowest level of aggressiveness in clear plastic products)

For example: If M1808 Clear Plastic Detailer Spray will not remove a defect, then we would want to use M1008 Clear Plastic Polish next. If the defect remains, then step it up to M1708 Clear Plastic Cleaner. If this does work in removing the defect, then we should use M1008 CPP, & even finish with M1808 CPDS to maintain the highest level of optical clarity.

Would this work well clearing up the minor micro marring I am getting?

If we are marring the finish each time then perhaps M1008 CPP is sufficient enough already, and we may want to consider using it as the initial first product choice.

Also just to add...

I have used a LOT of PlastX and really LOVE the stuff. The only time I experienced hazzing, as in marring on the plastic, was when I did not work it in long enough. It needs to be really worked in, with a high quality MF towel like Meguiar's Ultimate Wipe. Using a high quality MF is VERY important. Try your MF on a CD-R and see if just the towel scratches it. If it does, rest assured, it will probably leave a little hazzing on the plastic as well. If that is the case, switch to a different MF and try again.

Now, there are many different types of plastics. Some plastics, like headlights, may require a couple of applications. An instrument cluster may need a real light touch, but still working the product in throroughly.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I am working on two things. First the clear plastic on the face of the stereo. Second the tail lights.

On the stereo face I used my best MF towels. I applied using gentle pressure but worked it well to break down the abrasives. The scratches were removed no problem. The problem is that in the right light I can see VERY FINE micro marring. It is so fine that there is no way a picture will pick it up. In fact it is so fine that even in the right light it is difficult to see. You wouldn't see it unless you made a point of looking for it wich I did because I was working on it. Nobody will ever know they are there and it looks a hundred perecent better. I just want to take it to the next level.

On the tail light I used a new Megs foam app. The defects came out nicely. Just like the stereo face I can see very fine micro marring.

Am I being to OCD? Is it possible to get it perfect? The Klasse AIO helped a little on the stereo face. I am thinking of trying the PC and a finishing pad on the tail lights.

I too just used the stuff on a 1999 Volvo S70 headlight, and while I'm waiting to reapply, as some users have had to use 3x, and I think I will too, I also have the haze problem. Can't tell if it is working or not as the haze makes it look the same as the untreated headlight.

Is there a corporate answer to this? I don't feel I should have to buy more products, polish or buffer etc, to get rid of something that is a product residual result. And for the record, it is now over $12 here in Canada...

And for the record also, after surfing more than a 1/2 dozen sites, it's still at best 2/3 to 1/3 for this product, if I had surfed before buying, and saw that more than 33% of people hate it, I wouldn't have bought it, I need more of a success rate than that, so should the manufacturer.
