  • Best Maintenance Combo?

    I've read tons of info on this site which has led me to question the combination of products I'm using. Currently, I use NXT Wax 2.0, UQD, and UQW.

    Although I've loved the results, is this necessarily the best combo?

    Would it be better to use NXT Spray Wax and NXT Speed Detailer in place of the UQD and UQW, seeing as how they are all synthetics/same product line? Theoretically thinking, using all NXT products would yield better, more desirable results, but is that actually the case?

    As far as wax goes, NXT Wax 2.0 will be my wax/paint sealant of choice, so I'm trying to figure out the best combo of products to compliment it.

      I almost stopped reading there, because there's no such thing as "the best". Although I can understand your sentiments on trying to find out how to get the best results for your car, it's simply that. You'll need to experiment to find out what gives you the best results for your car.

      It also depends what qualities you like the most. Most products focus on different areas, such as beading or durability, etc.

      I like your way of thinking though regarding the NXT products. I suggest you experiment with it and post your results. From what I've seen too many people like the UQD/UGW combo to try anything else, so we need more people to experiment and find new things. But again, your results could vary from mine.

      According to the NXT containers, the NXT speed wax is designed to compliment the regular NXT Wax 2.0, so perhaps that combo could be better with 3 products used together instead of just 2.

        OhioState, one thing to keep in mind: I am confident that UQD and UQW were created to complement NXT 2.0. Each features Meguiar's hydrophobic polymer technology. NXT is Meguiar's most popular and technologically advanced wax/sealant. If there is no "Ultimate" wax, that's because NXT in fact is that "Ultimate" wax.

        If MOL has enthusiastically embraced UQD and UQW, it is because the worth of these products has been proven in MOL experience. But by all means try the other products in the NXT line and as xantonin suggests, post your results. The only way for you to learn which combination works best with your vehicles is to experiment. Good luck and have fun!

            One of the reasons I'm asking this question in the first place. NXT products are specifically designed to work together and compliment each other. Is this the same if you use Ultimate products with NXT Wax 2.0? If so, then that would have to mean the the Ultimate products are virtually the same products as their NXT cousin.

            I'd hope so, but again, that's why I'm here asking, because we aren't sure.

            Which leads me to believe that:
            UQD = NXT Speed Detailer
            UQW = NXT Spray Wax
            Therefore, they are the same products with different names.

            But who knows? I wish someone from Meguiar's Staff whould chime in to clear things up!

              When the original version of NXT Generation Tech Wax came out it did not have the hydrophobic polymers, nor did any of the other products in the NXT lineup, including NXT Spray Wax and NXT Speed Detailer. While it's true that these products, and others, were introduced as part of a new "line" of products and that NXT Spray Wax offered many of the same properties of the NXT liquid and paste (but just as a booster product, of course) that doesn't mean you can't use a different spray wax, mist & wipe product, or even another wax right on top of NXT Tech Wax. All of our products are compatible with each across the board.

              But is UQD the same as NXT Speed Detailer? No. UQD contains the same hydrophobic polymers found in NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 whereas NXT Speed Detailer is unchanged from its original formulation which predates our introduction of hydrophobic polymers.

              Is UQW the same as NXT Spray Wax? No. UQW not only contains the same hydrophobic polymers as UQD and NXT 2.0, but it's also VOC free, will not stain textured vinyl trim, and can be used in direct sunlight on a warm surface. This is very different than NXT Spray Wax.

              Right now NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 ranks as our longest lasting, best protecting wax. UQD is our premium mist & wipe product, and UQW ranks as our top line spray/booster wax. Does that mean everyone is going to like them equally? Of course not. Does that mean you can't use UQW over Gold Class or M26? Nope; if you want to do it, go for it!

              So basically what we have is a major upgrade to NXT Generation Tech Wax in version 2.0, and the introduction of some new products that make use of some of this new technology without replacing a group of products under the NXT name that have a following and are just not yet ready to be retired. (whew!)

              Best. That can be quantified, but it can also be subjective. NXT will outlast Gold Class so it's "best" in that regard. But if a customer prefers the application and removal, and the final appearance, of Gold Class, doesn't that make Gold Class "best" in his eyes?

              Your use of NXT 2.0, UQD and UQW means you're using what we consider to be our top line products in each of those categories. No wonder you've loved the results. Stick with it.

                Re: Best Maintenance Combo?

                Thanks, Mike! It all makes sense now. While NXT Tech Wax underwent a major upgrade (hence 2.0), the rest of the NXT product line remained unchanged. Hypothetically then, UQD and UQW could be considered NXT Speed Detailer 2.0 and NXT Spray Wax 2.0.

                Glad to know I'm using the "best" possible combo! The results certainly don't lie; I'll continue using this combo until you release something even better and more advanced.

                  Just remember you still want the older Quick Detailer for claying.

                    Re: Best Maintenance Combo?

                    what if i included using the ColorX? as I seem to get a lot of rain and sunny weathers down here in Indonesia... would this be ok for at least 2-3 weeks?

                    ColorX/NXT2.0 ??
                    or
                    ColorX/UQW ??

                    im currently doing the ColorX/NXT 2.0 once a month, but since the arrival of UQW i was wondering if it was recommended to use the UQW instead of the NXT 2.0 once a month?

                    thx

                      @Ganesa,

                      I think Color X is an AIO product. Which means that it includes all. But after using Color X, it's better to use NXT 2.0, to give more protection and after that, give another touch like UQW for weekly and UQD for daily.

                      With hand use, using color X and NXT every month was ok.

                        Why not try this process:

                        Every two or three months, apply ColorX and top with NXT. In-between apply UQW after each wash or after every other wash.

                          yup, thats what im currently doing, using the colorX as a mild cleaner and topping it off with two layers of nxt 2.0 every end of a month..
                          i just bought the UQW, and probably using that as a weekend maintainer, and the UQD as a daily cleaner...

                          dari indo juga?? :]

                          I tried the ColorX/NXT2.0 combo every two months, and in between maintaining it with UQD after every wash, but dont know why for some sort of a reason the durability isn't lasting too long...
                          I think its the mean weather down here in Indonesia, it rains so much for so long, and the sun suddenly appears making all these water spots.. I wash my car with GC shampoo 2-3 times a week or at least every morning after raining, but after 3-4 weeks, I dont see any beads on the roof,hood,trunk any more..

                          I just recently got a hold of the UQW, maybe maintaining with that would last a longer than my previous process..
