  • Abrasiveness scale

Is there a list of the cleaner/polish/wax products that contain abrassives/diminishing abrasives in the consumer line? If so, is there an abrasive rating/scale for each one?

If this is not available for the whole line, how about Gold Class liquid and Paste?

    Thanks,

    George

    Re: Abrasiveness scale

The Gold Class liquid and Paste are polish/waxes. That is they contain lots of polishing oils, and wax. No abrasives.

As far as a list.... All of the cleaners at least have a little. The pure polishes and waxes do not have abrasives in them.

      Re: Abrasiveness scale

I'll take a stab (from least aggressive to most aggressive):

      Cleaner/Polishes:
      Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
      ScratchX 1.0
      SwirlX
      ScratchX 2.0
      Ultimate Compound

      Cleaner Waxes:
      Cleaner Wax
      ColorX

All other waxes in Meguiar's consumer line, including Gold Class, are nonabrasive and do not remove paint.
Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.

I am a long time customer for Meguiar's professional products who has been asked by a friend for guidance on the use of the comercial products (which I have no knowledge of) for detailing his truck.

          Thanks for the inputs.

            Re: Abrasiveness scale

SwirlX or ColorX would probably be a good starting point for him then.

            1. Wash - Gold Class, 2 buckets ,etc
            2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit, maybe an extra QD bottle
            3. Clean - SwirlX
            4. Polish - Optional, since SwirlX is a cleaner/polish. But the Deep Crystal Polish would be fine.
            5. Wax - 2 thin coats of Nxt 2.0

            Or:

            1. Wash
            2. Clay
            3. ColorX
            4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

Thanks for the link, helpful as always.

                Hi George,

What kind of truck are you working on?
Is this a show truck or a daily driver?

Tell us a little more about what it is you're working on and what you're trying to accomplish? (Remove swirls?)

Then we'll do our best to help you choose the right products and use them in the right order.
